Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a Mining Engineer to join the Operations Planning team in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. You will translate quarterly plans into executable mine schedules, manage development and Drill & Blast activities, and coordinate with site and technical hubs to optimise plan delivery.

The role focuses on short-term planning, development engineering, and integrated scheduling, with strong stakeholder engagement and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• Commitment to safety of yourself and your team.
• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in open pit mining operations and mine planning.
• Strong understanding of short term planning, development planning and Drill & Blast processes.
• Analytical and problem-solving capability with strong attention to detail and clear communication of technical information.
• Capability to prepare accurate, achievable mine or development plans and reconcile plan performance against actuals.
• Strong numerical analysis and data validation and reconciliation ability to translate operational data into planning decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver executable 2 Week Schedules aligned to the Quarterly Forecast.
• Produce and manage Development and Drill & Blast daily schedule and coordinate implementation between site and D&B Hub.
• Monitor drill pattern availability and manage deviations from the 2WS, identifying risks and corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain development Gantt, including land clearing and machine guidance design files.
• Coordinate inputs from operations, planning and stakeholders to build an integrated 2-week schedule.
• Weekly pit drive-arounds to verify alignments and perform field inspections.
• Prepare inputs for End-of-Month reconciliations to support planning decisions.
