Job summary

You will manage documentation, liaise with the Department of Home Affairs, handle RFIs, and stay updated on policy changes. Mandarin speaking and overseas education firm experience are a plus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on visa options and eligibility.

• Respond to RFIs from the Department of Home Affairs and provide guidance.

About the role

We are seeking a registered Migration Agent to join our legal team on a part-time basis in our Sydney CBD office. This is a crucial position that plays a vital role in supporting our clients through complex migration matters. As a Migration Agent, you will provide professional advice and support on Australian immigration law, helping businesses, individuals and families navigate the visa application process. This part-time arrangement offers flexibility whilst maintaining continuity and excellence in our migration practice.

What you'll be doing

• Advising clients on appropriate visa options and eligibility requirements based on their circumstances and aspirations
• Preparing and lodging visa applications with the Department of Home Affairs on behalf of clients
• Reviewing and advising on sponsorship arrangements, including employer sponsorships and family-based visa applications
• Gathering and organising supporting documentation and evidence required for migration applications
• Responding to requests for additional information (RFIs) from the Department of Home Affairs and providing strategic guidance on responses
• Representing clients in dealings with migration authorities and managing correspondence
• Staying abreast of changes to Australian immigration law and policy, ensuring clients receive current and accurate advice
• Maintaining accurate file records and case management documentation

What we're looking for

• Valid registration as a Migration Agent with the Office of the Migration Agents' Registration Authority (OMARA)
• Demonstrated experiences in Australian immigration law and visa procedures
• Proven experience in preparing and lodging visa applications across multiple visa streams
• Strong knowledge of sponsorship arrangements, skilled migration and family-based visa categories
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients
• Outstanding attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously
• Proficiency in migration law database, such as LEGENDcom and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work autonomously
• A professional approach to client confidentiality and ethical practice standards
• Keen interest in employing AI in the migration law practice
• Preferred: experience working within an overseas education firm and Mandarin speaking capability
