Pine Rivers Eye Centre in Strathpine on Brisbane's northside is hiring for a full-time medical secretary and clinical assistant role. You will handle medical administration and assist ophthalmologists with eye assessments, with training provided for ophthalmic testing and equipment.
We offer a varied role across administration and clinical duties, no weekends or late nights, and a supportive team environment where you can develop skills in a busy yet welcoming ophthalmology clinic.
We are a specialist Ophthalmology clinic in Strathpine on Brisbane’s northside. Due to an internal promotion, we are recruiting for a full-time position, however, this isn't your typical medical secretary role.
While much of your time will be spent working as a medical secretary, you'll also be trained to assist our Ophthalmologists with patient assessments and diagnostic testing. Ideally, you'll spend 2-3 days per fortnight working as a clinical assistant, with the remaining days focused on medical administration. This balance may vary depending on clinic schedules, staffing and operational needs.
We're looking for someone who enjoys variety, is willing to learn new skills and is just as comfortable interacting with patients at reception as they are assisting in the clinical environment. Full training will be provided for clinical duties, with responsibilities increasing as you develop confidence and competency.
Managing patient enquiries, telephone calls and appointment bookings.
Surgery bookings.
Welcoming patients and providing excellent customer service.
Processing referrals, incoming correspondence, emails and faxes.
Managing patient documentation and electronic consent forms.
Processing Medicare claims, patient payments and billing.
Completing appointment confirmations, reminders and patient follow-ups.
Working closely with our doctors and clinical team to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
Taking patient histories and performing preliminary eye assessments.
Measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure.
Learning to operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, including OCT scanners and visual field analysers.
Preparing patients for their consultations and assisting with patient flow.
Supporting our clinical team during periods of increased demand, annual leave and sick leave.
We're looking for someone who is:
Friendly, approachable and genuinely enjoys helping people.
Organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities.
Comfortable working in a busy medical environment.
Adaptable and happy to move between administrative and clinical responsibilities.
A great communicator who works well as part of a small team.
Detail-oriented, with strong computer and administrative skills.
Enthusiastic about learning and developing new skills.
Previous experience in a medical secretary or clinical assistant role will be highly regarded.
$34 – $38 per hour, dependent on experience.
Monday – Friday full-time hours which can be worked across a 9-day fortnight (7:30am – 4:30pm / 8am – 5pm)
No weekends and no late nights.
A varied role combining administration and hands-on clinical work.
Training in ophthalmic testing and diagnostic equipment.
Supportive, respectful and fun team environment.
Team outings throughout the year.
If you're looking for something a little different from a traditional medical secretary role and would love the opportunity to develop clinical skills alongside your administrative experience, we'd love to hear from you.
