Job summary

Obadare Group in Toowoomba, Australia, seeks a hands-on Mechanical Draftsperson to join our engineering team. You will produce accurate, fabrication-ready mechanical and structural drawings using SolidWorks and contribute from concept through to fabrication.

The role involves close collaboration with engineering, fabrication and operations teams, developing BOMs, and supporting new product development. A willingness to learn and train on industry specifics is valued.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical drafting and 3D modelling skills.
• Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience preparing detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Good understanding of mechanical components, structural steel and/or fabricated equipment.
• Interpret engineering concepts and turn them into clear, practical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and drawing/document control.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.
• Experience in oil & gas, mining, heavy fabrication, mechanical equipment, structural steel, drilling or related industries is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Job description

Obadare is Australia's only American Petroleum Institute (API) 4F licensed CSG rig builder. With our own OEM product range continuing to expand and a strong pipeline of major projects, we are seeking a skilled Mechanical Draftsperson to join our engineering team in Toowoomba.

This is a hands‑on drafting position suited to someone with strong mechanical drafting and 3D modelling skills who enjoys seeing their work progress from concept and detailed drawings through to fabrication and completed equipment.

The Role

Working as part of our engineering team, your primary focus will be producing accurate, practical and fabrication‑ready mechanical and structural drawings using SolidWorks.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Producing detailed drawings, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Preparing fabrication, workshop and general arrangement drawings.
• Developing drawings from engineering concepts, sketches and existing equipment.
• Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Completing drawing revisions and maintaining accurate drawing documentation.
• Working closely with engineers, project managers, fabrication personnel and the operations team.
• Reviewing designs for manufacturability, practicality and compliance with project requirements.
• Assisting with design development and continuous improvement of existing equipment.
• Supporting new product development across Obadare's growing OEM product range.
• Conducting site and workshop measurements where required.
• Supporting project handovers from engineering into fabrication and operations.

About You

We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing accurate, high‑quality drafting work and can work effectively within a practical engineering and fabrication environment.

Ideally, you will have:

• Strong mechanical drafting and 3D modelling skills.
• Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience preparing detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• A good understanding of mechanical components, structural steel and/or fabricated equipment.
• The ability to interpret engineering concepts and turn them into clear, practical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and drawing/document control.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.
• A practical approach to problem solving and design.
• Experience within oil & gas, mining, heavy fabrication, mechanical equipment, structural steel, drilling or related industries would be highly regarded but is not essential.

Our products are unique within the Australian market, so we don't expect you to arrive knowing everything about our equipment. We are willing to train the right person on the industry-specific elements. What we are looking for is someone with a strong drafting foundation, a good work ethic and a willingness to learn.
