Job summary

ALBURY STAINLESS STEEL PTY LTD – Lavington NSW is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Draftsperson to join our team in a full-time, permanent position. This senior, hands-on role works with sales, operations and fabrication teams, taking ownership from concept to detailed production drawings.

You will produce 2D and 3D fabrication drawings, design custom stainless products, prepare drawings for laser cutting and CNC folding, review site measurements and liaise with clients.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, engineering or CAD drafting.
• Mechanical engineering or drafting qualifications and/or relevant industry experience.
• Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills.
• Autodesk Inventor (preferred); SolidWorks or similar CAD experience accepted.
• Understanding of laser cutting, CNC folding, welding and fabrication processes.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Attention to detail and practical problem solving.
• Good communication with office and workshop teams.
• Ability to manage priorities and own projects from design to manufacture.
• Experience in stainless steel fabrication or commercial kitchen equipment is valued; sheet metal/manufacturing experience also considered.

Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Draftsperson

Albury Stainless Steel is a locally owned and operated stainless steel fabrication business specialising in custom commercial kitchens, architectural stainless steel, exhaust canopies, bars, handrails and general stainless fabrication.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Draftsperson to join our team in a full-time, permanent position.

This is a senior, hands‑on design role working closely with our sales, operations and fabrication teams. We are looking for someone capable of working independently, managing multiple projects and taking ownership of design work from concept and site information through to detailed production drawings and manufacture.

The role will include:

• Producing detailed 2D and 3D fabrication and approval drawings
• Designing custom stainless steel products and assemblies
• Preparing drawings and components for laser cutting, CNC folding and fabrication
• Designing for manufacture and resolving fabrication/design issues
• Reviewing site measurements, architectural drawings, specifications and client requirements
• Liaising directly with sales, workshop staff, suppliers and clients
• Managing drawing revisions and client approvals
• Taking ownership of multiple projects through the design and production process
• Providing technical and design support to our fabrication team
• Assisting with the ongoing development of our CAD standards, standard products and design processes

Ideally, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience in a similar mechanical design, engineering or CAD drafting role
• Mechanical engineering, drafting or similar qualifications and/or relevant industry experience
• Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills
• Autodesk Inventor experience preferred, however SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD experience will be considered
• A practical understanding of laser cutting, CNC folding, welding and fabrication processes
• The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with both office and workshop teams
• The ability to manage priorities and take ownership of projects from design through to manufacture
• Experience within stainless steel fabrication or commercial kitchen equipment would be highly regarded but is not essential. Strong experience in sheet metal, manufacturing or a similar fabrication environment will also be considered.
