Job summary

Peter Jacob Recruitment Pty Ltd – Gosford NSW is seeking a Mechanical Draftsperson to join their engineering team. You will create detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings for production machinery, conveyors and materials handling equipment, working with experienced engineers and manufacturing personnel from design through to installation.

The role requires confidence with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, drafting weldments and sheet metal components, and a practical understanding of fabrication

Qualifications

• Proficient with SolidWorks and AutoCAD to produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
• Experience drafting weldments and sheet metal components for production equipment.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and how equipment is fabricated and assembled.
• Experience with production machinery, conveyors or materials handling equipment is advantageous.
• Food processing or food manufacturing experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to organise workload and work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Producing detailed mechanical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

• Drafting structural weldments and sheet metal components.
• Preparing manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Working with engineers and manufacturing personnel to develop practical designs.

• Undertaking design calculations and drawing quality checks.
• Occasional site visits to confirm dimensions and project requirements.
• Ensuring drawings meet standards and customer requirements.

With a strong reputation for quality and engineering capability, they deliver equipment and production solutions for some of Australia's leading food processors and household brands.

With a consistent pipeline of projects, they are looking to add a Mechanical Draftsperson to their engineering team.

About the role

This is a permanent position suited to a Mechanical Draftsperson who can confident demonstrate proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Working alongside experienced engineers, designers and manufacturing personnel, you'll create detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings for production machinery, conveyors and materials handling equipment. You'll be involved across both new equipment and modifications to existing machinery, giving you exposure to a broad variety of projects from initial design through to manufacture and installation.

What a typical day entails

• Producing detailed mechanical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Creating 3D models, assemblies and sub-assemblies.
• Drafting structural weldments and sheet metal components.
• Preparing manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Working closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to develop practical design solutions.
• Interpreting customer specifications and translating them into detailed drawings.
• Supporting equipment modifications and improvements.
• Undertaking design calculations and drawing quality checks.
• Conducting occasional site visits to confirm dimensions and project requirements.
• Ensuring drawings meet relevant standards, specifications and customer requirements.

What we're looking for

• Demonstrated working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Experience creating detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Experience drafting structural weldments and sheet metal components.
• An understanding of manufacturing processes and how equipment is fabricated and assembled.
• Experience with production machinery, conveyors or materials handling equipment would be highly regarded.
• Food processing or food manufacturing experience would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate work.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to organise your workload and work with limited supervision.
• A Drafting, Engineering or relevant trade qualification.
• Australian permanent residency or unrestricted Australian working rights.
