Job summary

The University of Melbourne is seeking a part-time, 0.4-0.6FTE role in FEIT to support safe, hands-on learning in makerspaces and student spaces. You will gain practical operations, customer service and safety experience that complements your university studies.

You will deliver inductions, assist with equipment use and help clubs with budgeting and procurement, developing strong user experience and safety practices in a busy academic setting.

Qualifications

• Must be a current University of Melbourne coursework student and available for part-time hours during business hours.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills for diverse students and staff.
• Demonstrate a customer service mindset with experience in busy environments.
• Show enthusiasm for safe, hands-on work with tools and equipment in makerspaces or laboratories.
• Growth mindset and willingness to contribute ideas to improve processes, user experience and safety.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operations of workshops, makerspaces and student spaces with safe, accessible, efficient use.
• Provide front-line assistance, answer inquiries, guide users to training, tools and processes.
• Deliver inductions and makerspace training to build user capability and safety practices.
• Assist students, project subjects and clubs with equipment use, budgeting, procurement and basic risk assessments.
• Contribute to equipment checks, consumable management and process improvements to keep spaces reliable.
