Job summary

Synertec in Melbourne seeks a collaborative Lead Process Engineer to deliver innovative solutions for clients across Water, Life Sciences, Transport and Defence sectors. You will lead multi-project technical delivery and own process engineering deliverables.

Reporting to the Team Manager, you will drive scoping, FEED development, equipment selection, detailed design, testing and commissioning, and support risk management activities including HAZOPs while growing with the business.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in Chemical/Process Engineering.
• Experience in GMP-regulated environments and applying compliance, validation, and quality principles across engineering projects.
• Hands-on and collaborative in process design related projects.
• Experience in process simulation, flow sheeting, P&ID drafting and equipment selection.
• Experience in highly regulated or high-risk industries: Water, Life Sciences, Transport, Energy & Resources, Defence & Manufacturing.
• Engineering consultancy experience is a plus.
• Effective communicator with clients on project requirements and specifications.
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn and develop within the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day technical delivery across multiple projects from greenfield to brownfield upgrades.
• Act as the Process Discipline Lead, owning deliverables and ensuring standards compliance.
• Lead scoping, concept design and FEED development, equipment selection, detailed design, testing and commissioning.
• Facilitate risk management including HAZOPs, CHAZOPs and hazard analyses.
• Provide process engineering leadership across clients and projects.
• Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams and interface with clients/stakeholders.
• Support business development through proposals, tender submissions and client engagement.
• Include ongoing training and development for the team.

About the Role

We are seeking a collaborative and driven Lead Process Engineer who is looking to play a key role in delivering innovative solutions for industry-leading clients.

Reporting into the Team Manager and playing a critical role to our success, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading day-to-day technical delivery across multiple projects ranging from longer term greenfield projects through to upgrading and/or refurbishment of brownfield facilities.
• Act as the Process Discipline Lead, taking ownership of process engineering deliverables and ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable standards and client expectations.
• Leading process engineering activities including scoping, concept design and FEED development, equipment selection, detailed design, testing and commissioning, ensuring successful project outcomes across the full project lifecycle.
• Facilitate and contribute to risk management activities including HAZOPs, CHAZOPs, Hazards Analyses and other risk assessment workshops, ensuring outcomes are effectively incorporated into project designs.
• Applying sound technical knowledge and providing process engineering leadership across a range of clients, projects and industry portfolios.
• Working collaboratively within dynamic multi-disciplinary project teams, acting as a key technical interface for clients and stakeholders while contributing to project planning and progress reviews.
• Contributing to business development activities including proposal preparation, tender submissions, scope development and technical engagement with clients.
• Ongoing training and development including a mixture of practical & theoretical in-house and external training programs.

About You

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering field, this can be Chemical/Process Engineering, and other related engineering disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience working within GMP-regulated environments and applying compliance, validation, and quality principles across engineering projects.
• You will have a hands on and collaborative nature, with proven experience across either small to large scale process design related projects.
• You will ideally have proven project experience in process simulation and design, flow sheeting, P&ID Drafting and equipment Selection.
• You will have proven experience in a highly regulated or high-risk industry; Water, Life Sciences, Transport, Energy & Resources and Defence & Manufacturing.
• Engineering consultancy experience will be highly regarded, but not essential.
• You must be an effective and influential communicator, with proven skills dealing directly with clients on project requirements and specifications.
