Job summary

Relationships Australia NT is seeking an Intake Officer to be the first point of contact for clients accessing counselling and mediation services in Darwin. The role requires compassionate communication, risk screening and strong organisational skills to connect people with the right support.

You will screen and assess clients, coordinate caseloads, maintain records and liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, trauma-informed service delivery.

Qualifications

• Ta tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or relevant discipline is required.
• Experience in social services and engaging distressed clients is preferred.
• Experience in screening and assessment related to family issues.
• Knowledge of consent and mandatory reporting for family violence and child protection.
• Strong record-keeping and liaison with practitioners.

We are looking for an Intake Officer to join our team and be an important first point of contact for people accessing our counselling and mediation services. What you will be doing:

As an Intake Officer, you will support clients from initial contact with RA-NT through screening, assessment, referral and case coordination. You will work closely with counsellors, family dispute resolution practitioners and other professionals to support safe and effective service delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing a professional, compassionate first point of contact for clients, both in person and by telephone or video.
• Screening and assessing clients to understand their circumstances, support needs and suitability for RA-NT services.
• Identifying and responding appropriately to safety concerns, including family and domestic violence, child safety and self-harm.
• Coordinating client caseloads and waitlists and working closely with practitioners to support effective service delivery.
• Providing appropriate internal and external referrals and helping clients connect with relevant services.
• Maintaining accurate client records, files and database information.
• Liaising with colleagues to ensure intake and referral processes are safe, trauma-informed and responsive to client circumstances.
• Maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound professional judgement when working with sensitive information.
• Contributing to a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
• Supporting community engagement, networking and promotion of RA-NT services.
• Providing general reception and administrative support as required.

You will be a compassionate and capable professional who is comfortable having sensitive conversations and supporting people who may be experiencing distress or complex family circumstances.

What you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or a relevant discipline.
• Experience working in the social services sector and engaging safely with distressed clients.
• Experience in screening and assessment, particularly in relation to family and relationship issues.
• Knowledge of informed consent and mandatory reporting responsibilities relating to family and domestic violence and child protection.
• Case management experience, including record keeping, file administration and liaison with practitioners.
• Strong administrative and digital skills, including experience using databases and computer software systems.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience working with Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse communities, together with a willingness to participate in cultural training and events.

An understanding of safety considerations relating to self-harm, family and domestic violence and child safety will be highly regarded.
