Job summary

Queensland Government is seeking an Indigenous Service Support Officer to assist Youth Justice Service Centre staff in delivering culturally appropriate support and intervention services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people subject to youth justice intervention.

The role is Indigenous Identified, with travel within the region, potential out-of-hours work, and a requirement to drive government vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate cultural capability and commitment to developing cultural capability to support inclusive culture and partnerships.
• Assist and support youth justice staff and community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families.
• Design and implement intervention strategies, negotiate with service providers, and link clients to required services.
• Consult and work with families, elders and community members to enhance stakeholder capacity for supporting Indigenous youth and families.
• Maintain records and information management, including notes, reports and performance reporting.
• Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team with internal and external stakeholders to achieve quality casework outcomes.
• Understand historical and contemporary policy impacts on Indigenous peoples and engage with humility.
• Work 0600 to 1800; occasional out-of-hours work may be required with applicable Award provisions.
• Drive government vehicles; hold a current C Class Drivers licence.
• Travel within the region for site visits and to regional officers, including possible overnight stays and flights.
