Job summary

Youth Justice and Victim Support Mackay is seeking an Indigenous Service Support Officer to assist staff in delivering culturally appropriate support and intervention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in youth justice programs.

The role requires Indigenous status, a Blue Card, and a valid driver’s licence; travel within the region may be required to visit sites and see program delivery.

Qualifications

  • Must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (Identified role).
  • Must provide/nominate a reference from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person to attest cultural capabilities.
  • Valid Blue Card linked to the organisation before starting.
  • Driver's licence (unrestricted C class) is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support youth justice staff and community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families.
  • Design and implement intervention strategies and link clients to required services.
  • Consult and work with families, elders and community members and government agencies to enhance stakeholder capacity.
  • Maintain case notes and prepare reports and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve quality casework outcomes.
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and contribute to an inclusive culture aligned with Human Rights Act 2019.
