Job summary

Ventia is seeking a Fire Tower Sentry at Puckapunyal Defence Base to monitor live-fire training activities and support safe operations within the range area.

You will coordinate with firefighting crews via radio, identify hazards, and provide precise location data to response teams while supporting HSE inspections and safety observations. Applicants should hold a Manual Driver's Licence and be prepared for a Defence Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor live-fire range activities and ensure safety requirements are followed.

  • Monitor for smoke, fire outbreaks and other operational risks.
  • Provide accurate location and navigation information to response teams.
  • Assist with HSE inspections, safety observations and job analysis activities.
  • Support the Land Management team with operational duties as required.
  • Collaborate with Defence personnel and internal stakeholders.

The Role

As a Fire Tower Sentry, you’ll be responsible for monitoring live-fire training activities and helping ensure safe operations across the training area.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Monitoring live-fire range activities and ensuring safety requirements are adhered to
  • Identifying and escalating potential hazards or breaches immediately
  • Coordinating with firefighting crews via radio communications
  • Monitoring for smoke, fire outbreaks and other operational risks
  • Providing accurate location and navigation information to response teams
  • Assisting with HSE inspections, safety observations and job analysis activities
  • Supporting the Land Management team with operational duties as required
  • Working closely with Defence personnel and internal stakeholders
About You

You have strong observation skills, remain calm under pressure and are confident communicating with operational teams in fast-paced environments.

Essential Requirements
  • Current Manual Driver's Licence
  • Experience using handheld and vehicle-mounted radio communication systems
  • Strong map reading and navigation skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across multiple stakeholders

  • Previous experience in emergency services, firefighting, Defence, land management or similar operational environments
