Job summary

J&S Milton Constructions in Everton Hills, Brisbane, is seeking an experienced Excavator & Skid Steer Operator for casual work with a view to full-time for the right candidate. You will operate 3.5T, 5T and 8T Kubota excavators and a pilot-control Posi Track skid steer across Brisbane, Ipswich, and northern Gold Coast projects.

The role requires strong mechanical skills, ability to perform maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and follow safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Experience operating 3.5T, 5T and 8T excavators and a pilot-control Posi Track skid steer.
• Current White Card / Blue Card.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate 3.5T, 5T and 8T excavators and pilot-control Posi Track skid steer.
• Carry out general excavation works across new-build and refurbishment projects.
• Work with team members and assist with duties on and off machines.
• Complete daily pre-start checks and basic machine maintenance.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues and assist in resolving them.

J&S Milton Constructions is a mid‑sized construction company specialising in concrete works across the greater Brisbane area. We pride ourselves on delivering high‑quality work, maintaining a strong focus on safety, and fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

We are currently seeking an experienced Excavator & Skid Steer Operator to join our team on a casual basis, with the opportunity to transition to a full‑time position for the right person.

The role requires strong operating experience across 3.5T, 5T and 8T Kubota excavators and a pilot-control Kubota Posi Track skid steer, along with the ability to carry out general maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical or functional issues as they arise. Strong mechanical skills and a practical, problem‑solving approach are essential. Experience and confidence with spreader bar operations is also a fundamental requirement of the role.

The successful applicant will be experienced, motivated and have a positive attitude and strong work ethic. You will work across a variety of current and upcoming projects throughout the greater Brisbane area, as well as the Ipswich and northern Gold Coast regions.

About the Role

• Depot located in Ferny Hills.
• Operate 3.5T, 5T and 8T excavators and pilot-control Posi Track skid steer.
• Carry out general excavation works across new‑build and refurbishment projects.
• Work alongside other team members and construction workers, assisting with duties both on and off the machines as required.
• Work independently when required while contributing effectively within a team environment.
• Complete daily pre‑start checks and general machine maintenance.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues and assist in resolving them where possible.
• Follow site safety requirements and complete all required inductions and daily safety paperwork.
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship, housekeeping and care of equipment.
• Be flexible with working hours and available to work 5–6 days per week as required.

Skills & Experience

• Relevant excavator and skid steer tickets/licences and demonstrated experience operating the required machinery.
• Current White Card / Blue Card.
• Proven experience operating 3.5T, 5T and 8T excavators and a pilot-control Posi Track.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with spreader bar operations.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
• A strong focus on safety and quality.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• A reliable, hardworking attitude and willingness to assist with general site duties when required.
