Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building and operating the dedicated cloud for Australia's national security community. You will join the Region Services team as a Systems Engineer for Route 53, owning DNS infrastructure across a sovereign cloud program with a global footprint.

You will design latency-based routing, Private DNS, Geo DNS, and failover architectures, write production-ready code, and drive automation and resilience at scale.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP(S), DNS, and TCP/IP.
• Experience with automation or scripting languages like Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell, or equivalent
• Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting
• Experience troubleshooting skills at all levels, from application to network to host
• Operations experience working with CI/CD Pipelines and deployment systems like Terraform, Github Actions, Jenkins, or others

Responsibilities

• Own the full engineering lifecycle of Route 53's DNS infrastructure within this programme — and that means your fingerprints will be on everything from initial architecture through to operational excellence at scale.
• Design and implement DNS solutions that leverage Route 53's capabilities: latency-based routing, Private DNS, Geo DNS, and failover architectures.
• Write production-quality code daily, build automation frameworks, and develop monitoring systems to surface anomalies.
• Integrate Route 53 with the broader AWS ecosystem and collaborate across teams for seamless interoperability.
• Mentor teammates and drive operational excellence, runbooks, incident response, and root-cause analyses.
