Job summary

Torres Strait Island Regional Council in Cairns, QLD, is seeking a Desktop & Systems Administrator to manage and improve IT infrastructure across Cairns and the Torres Strait region. You will support staff, oversee network and security, and help implement Microsoft 365, AD, Entra ID, VMware and cloud-based services.

The role requires 3-5 years in a complex IT environment, strong technical skills, and a proactive, customer-focused approach.

Qualifications

3-5 years' experience supporting a complex IT environment.
Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, VMware and networking.
Experience with PowerShell scripting, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and SQL administration.
Sound knowledge of cyber security, Veeam backups and Cisco Meraki networking.
Excellent troubleshooting, communication and problem-solving skills.
A proactive, team-focused approach with the ability to work independently.
Experience with TechnologyOne and Torres Strait languages and culture will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

Maintain and support Council's IT systems, networks, servers and devices.
Administer Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, VMware and cloud-based systems.
Monitor cyber security, system performance, backups and disaster recovery.
Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide onsite and remote IT support.
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts, automated processes and applications.
Identify opportunities to improve IT systems, security and operational efficiency.
