Job summary

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Sydney is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to embed and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards across the organisation.

You will monitor data quality, maintain metadata, and collaborate with business units and IT to align governance with strategic objectives while driving awareness and training in data management.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in data governance, data management, or data quality roles.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
• Experience working with data governance or data management tools such as MS Purview.
• Experience implementing or supporting data quality management practices and controls.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to define and manage metadata, data dictionaries, and data catalogues.
• Experience working with data owners / stewards to drive accountability and best practice.
• Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders across business and technical teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Embed and implement data governance frameworks: Establish policies, standards, and procedures to ensure effective management and use of data across the organisation.
• Ensure data quality and integrity: Monitor, analyse, and improve data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability.
• Maintain data catalogues and metadata repositories: Ensure data assets are documented, discoverable, and properly classified.
• Collaborate with stakeholders: Work with business units, IT, and leadership to align data governance practices with business objectives.
• Identify and mitigate data risks: Proactively assess risks related to data handling and implement controls to minimise exposure.
• Drive data governance awareness and training: Promote best practices and build organisational capability in data management.
