Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a Community Development Officer in Camperdown, NSW 2050. This permanent part-time role (3 days per week) focuses on building relationships with community groups, coordinating events, gathering feedback, and promoting programs to address local needs.

You will work with stakeholders to deliver projects, collect data to measure outcomes, and provide administrative support to ensure program delivery. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in community service or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with vulnerable communities, families and children.

Your opportunity

This Community Development Officer role involves building relationships with community groups and service providers, organising community events and awareness activities, gathering feedback from the community, identifying opportunities for new projects, and promoting programs through communications.

The role also includes working with stakeholders to address community needs, collecting and reporting data to measure program outcomes, and completing administrative tasks to support program delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in community development, stakeholder engagement and event coordination, along with strong communication, relationship-building and organisational skills.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, service providers and stakeholders to support positive outcomes for local communities.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver community engagement activities, events and awareness initiatives aligned with program objectives.
• Conduct community consultations and gather feedback to identify needs, opportunities and areas for continuous improvement.
• Support the development and implementation of community development projects that align with strategic priorities.
• Develop and distribute communications and promotional materials to raise awareness of programs, services and community initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to strengthen partnerships and enhance service delivery outcomes.
• Collect, monitor and report on program data, outcomes and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement and funding requirements.
• Participate in interagency meetings, networking forums and community groups while providing administrative support to ensure effective program delivery.

Requirements for success

• Relevant tertiary qualification in community service or any related field, or equivalent experience, skills and expertise gained through previous employment, training or community services work.
• Experience working with vulnerable communities, families and children, with a strong understanding of community development and engagement principles.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across community, government and service sectors.
• Experience planning and delivering community events, engagement activities and awareness initiatives that drive positive community outcomes.
• Excellent communication, consultation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster meaningful collaboration.
• Strong organisational, reporting and administrative skills, including experience with data collection, evaluation, Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems.
