Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a part-time Community Development Officer based in Camperdown, NSW. The role focuses on building relationships with community groups, coordinating events, collecting feedback, and promoting programs to improve community outcomes.

You will engage with service providers, plan activities aligned with program objectives, and report on outcomes to support funding and continuous improvement. A national police check and Working with Children clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in community service or related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with vulnerable communities, families and children.
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders across community, government and service sectors.
• Experience planning and delivering community events and engagement activities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, reporting and administrative skills including data collection and use of digital systems.
• National police history check and clearance to work with children/vulnerable people required.

• Collect, monitor and report on program data, outcomes and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement and funding requirements.
• Participate in interagency meetings, networking forums and community groups while providing administrative support to ensure effective program delivery.

Your opportunity

This Community Development Officer role involves building relationships with community groups and service providers, organising community events and awareness activities, gathering feedback from the community, identifying opportunities for new projects, and promoting programs through communications. The role also includes working with stakeholders to address community needs, collecting and reporting data to measure program outcomes, and completing administrative tasks to support program delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in community development, stakeholder engagement and event coordination, along with strong communication, relationship-building and organisational skills.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Requirements for success

Relevant tertiary qualification in community service or any related field, or equivalent experience, skills and expertise gained through previous employment, training or community services work.

Experience working with vulnerable communities, families and children, with a strong understanding of community development and engagement principles.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across community, government and service sectors.

Experience planning and delivering community events, engagement activities and awareness initiatives that drive positive community outcomes.

Excellent communication, consultation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster meaningful collaboration.

Strong organisational, reporting and administrative skills, including experience with data collection, evaluation, Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
