Job summary

WB Infrastructure in Canberra is looking for an experienced Civil Labourer to join our ACT operations. This hands-on role suits someone with strong watermain renewals, excavation and civil construction experience who enjoys working with a high-performing field team.

You will assist with watermain installation and renewal works, trenching, pipe laying and safety-conscious practices while maintaining quality standards. The position is full-time with overtime opportunities and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience in civil construction.
• Experience in watermain installation, renewals or reticulation works is highly regarded.
• Strong understanding of excavation, trenching and pipe laying activities.
• Ability to read and follow site plans and construction drawings.
• Experience using hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of civil construction practices.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist with excavation, trenching and preparation works for watermain renewal projects.
• Install, replace and remove water mains, valves, hydrants and associated infrastructure.
• Perform pipe laying, jointing, bedding, backfilling and compaction works.
• Support plant operators through spotting and maintaining exclusion zones.
• Locate and protect underground services and utilities during excavation activities.
• Install and maintain trench support systems and ensure trench safety requirements are met.
• Complete reinstatement works, including asphalt, landscaping and site restoration.
• Load, unload and transport materials, equipment and tools.
• Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of plant, tools and equipment.
• Follow project drawings, work instructions and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).

You will be involved in watermain installation and renewal works, excavation and trenching operations, pipe laying and civil construction activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

Assist with excavation, trenching and preparation works for watermain renewal projects.

Install, replace and remove water mains, valves, hydrants and associated infrastructure.

Perform pipe laying, jointing, bedding, backfilling and compaction works.

Support plant operators through spotting and maintaining exclusion zones.
