Job summary

Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney, part of the Amora Hotels Group, seeks a motivated Chief Engineer to lead the engineering and facilities function of a premium hotel in Sydney’s CBD.

Reporting to the Hotel Manager, this role runs a busy, high-performing department with a focus on safety, compliance and exceptional guest service.

The successful candidate will manage building systems, supervise staff and contractors, and drive energy efficiency while controlling the maintenance budget.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, plumbing or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong understanding of hotel/commercial building engineering compliance and essential services.
• Experience leading engineering teams and contractors in a complex building environment.
• Extensive knowledge of AFSS, HVAC, electrical, hydraulic, fire safety and essential services.
• Financial awareness with experience managing an operational maintenance budget.
• Experience with large capex projects and renovations is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the hotel's engineering department, setting high standards of service, safety and professionalism.
• Oversee reactive and preventative maintenance and manage work orders to resolution.
• Ensure building systems performance and reliability across AFSS, HVAC, electrical, hydraulic and plumbing.
• Oversee engineering contractors, monitor quality, and ensure documentation and sign-offs are complete.
• Maintain compliance registers, coordinate inspections and rectify defects promptly.
• Assist Hotel Manager with Crisis Management and WHS programmes.
• Manage the maintenance operating budget and identify efficiency/cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitor energy and utilities usage and drive energy-efficiency initiatives.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and well- experienced Chief Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager, this role is to lead the hotel's engineering and facilities function, ensuring every building system, plant and infrastructure operates safely and reliably all the time. This role would suit a qualified and experienced engineering leader who takes pride in running a tight, high-performing department and understand the unique demands of a premium hotel environment and be able to handle a very busy with competing priorities environment. Key responsibilities are as below:

• Lead and manage the hotel’s engineering department, setting high standards of service delivery, safety and professionalism across Maintenance Staff, Technicians and Contractors
• Oversee all reactive and preventative maintenance across the property, ensuring issues are responded to efficiently, resolved to the required standard and work orders are managed thoroughly
• Manage the performance and reliability of all building systems including, AFSS, HVAC, electrical, hydraulic and plumbing, fire safety, essential services, kitchen equipment and plant room infrastructure
• Oversee all engineering Contractors operating on property, monitoring performance, quality of work and compliance with hotel procedures, and ensuring all documentation, certifications and sign-offs are completed correctly
• Maintain engineering compliance registers, coordinate statutory inspections and essential services servicing, and ensure defects identified during compliance activities are rectified promptly
• Assist the Hotel Manager in leading the hotel's Crisis Management programme, WHS programme, ensuring safe work practices are maintained across all Engineering and Contractor activities
• Manage the engineering maintenance operating budget, control expenditure within approved limits and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
• Monitor energy and utilities consumption across the property, investigating anomalies and driving initiatives to improve energy efficiency

What we are looking for

• A trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, plumbing or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
• Solid understanding of engineering compliance requirements and essential services management in a hotel or commercial building
• Strong experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance or facilities management, including proven leadership of engineering teams and contractors in a complex building environment.
• Extensive technical knowledge of building systems and plant operations including AFSS, HVAC, electrical, hydraulic, fire safety and essential services.
• Financial awareness and demonstrated experience managing an operational maintenance budget.
• Previous experience in managing large scale capex projects, and experience with hotel renovation would be a plus
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive departmental performance
• Resilient and solutions-focused, stays calm and moves fast when it matters
• Hands-on and non-hierarchical, works with the team and leads from the front
