Job summary

Hyde Melbourne Place in Melbourne's CBD is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead facilities and maintenance for a luxury hotel managed by Ennismore. You will oversee HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, manage a technical team, drive preventive maintenance, and ensure safety, energy efficiency and compliance across the property.

This role demands hands-on leadership, strong organisational skills, and the ability to respond promptly to incidents to keep guests comfortable and teams

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or similar role within hotels, resorts, or commercial buildings.
• Strong knowledge of building services, plant equipment, and compliance requirements.
• Hands‑on leadership style with excellent problem‑solving skills.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on‑call as required.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of all engineering systems – HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.
• Lead, schedule, and support the engineering team, ensuring effective coverage and high standards of work.
• Manage and implement preventive maintenance programs for equipment, guest rooms, and public areas.
• Respond quickly to maintenance requests or emergencies, minimising disruption to operations and guests.
• Collaborate with department heads to support operational needs and ensure seamless service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as legal and brand requirements.
• Manage contractors, service providers, and external inspections, ensuring quality and timely work.
• Monitor and optimise energy use, utilities, and maintenance budgets.
• Keep detailed maintenance records and assist with capital planning and project implementation.
• Train your team on safety, emergency procedures, and best practices.
