Job summary

Winston Cafe in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Cafe Manager to lead our floor and bar team, oversee service, stock, rosters and training, and ensure every shift runs smoothly.

You will dial in espresso recipes, manage supplier relationships, maintain food safety and WHS standards, handle cash, and build lasting relationships with regulars. Availability on weekends is required, and Australian working rights are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' barista experience and strong knowledge of beans and espresso dialling.
• Minimum 2 years' management experience in hospitality or a related field.
• Proven ability to train rostering and develop a large team.

Job description

Winston Cafe is looking for an experienced Cafe Manager to lead our floor and bar team and keep our customers coming back. As Cafe Manager, you'll look after the whole operation: the coffee, the stock, the roster and the team. Just as importantly, you'll be the friendly face that keeps customers coming back.

What you'll do

• Lead, motivate and support a large team of staff
• Recruit, onboard and train new team members, and build their skills and confidence
• Manage rosters and shifts, keeping labour costs on budget
• Handle performance conversations and keep the team happy and on track
• Keep service running smoothly and to a high standard every shift
• Maintain coffee quality, including dialling in, and programming the machine and grinder to our recipes
• Order and manage stock, including coffee beans, milk and food supplies and packaging, keeping levels on target and waste low
• Manage supplier relationships and deliveries
• Open and close the cafe, including cash handling, till reconciliation and banking
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and WHS standards
• Oversee cleaning and maintenance of equipment, including the machine, grinder and fridges
• Build genuine, ongoing relationships with regulars and new customers, and resolve any customer feedback on the spot
• Keep the cafe clean, presentable and welcoming

About you

• Minimum 2 years' barista experience, with strong knowledge of beans, dialling in, and programming espresso machines and grinders to recipes
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a management role (or equivalent) in a relevant industry
• Proven experience managing a large team, including training, rostering and keeping everyone happy and on track
• A warm, bubbly personality with a natural ability to connect with customers
• A genuine love for hospitality
• Clean, well presented and reliably punctual
• Strong communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
• Availability to work weekends and public holidays (this is a requirement of the role)
• Full, unrestricted Australian working rights is essential
• Food Safety Certificate
• Experience with POS systems
