Job summary

Department of Parliamentary Services in Canberra is seeking a Broadcasting Infrastructure and Support Cabling Specialist to install and maintain a wide range of ELV cabling, including fibre, coaxial, CAT5/6, and related networks, and to update drawings in coordination with the drafting team.

You will liaise with contractors, parliamentarians and staff, manage tools and inventory, and work extended hours as required, while ensuring compliance with building and safety requirements.

Duty Statement

• 1. Complete the installation, termination and maintenance of a broad range of communications cabling including but not limited to coaxial, triaxial, fibre optic, CAT5 and CAT6 network, SELV and ELV signal and multicore cable.
• 2. Apply experience in fault location and remediation to live systems, without causing additional disruption.
• 3. Apply experience and knowledge of minor building works including mounting hardware in accordance with building requirements and applicable regulations for concrete, brick, metal and plaster surfaces.
• 4. Update paper-based drawings to reflect changes to cabling and termination locations, referring to the in-house drafting team for official updates.
• 5. Liaise directly with a broad range of stakeholders including contractors, parliamentarians and staff, to confirm their requirements whilst completing tasks.
• 6. Take responsibility for identifying required tools and equipment, sourcing quotes and actively maintaining inventory.
• 7. Collaborate with other members of the team to facilitate knowledge sharing and to seek guidance or escape issues where appropriate.

Note: Staff may be deployed to duties of an equivalent level in this area of the section, to meet changing work priorities. They will be required to work extended and/or irregular hours on an as required basis.

Selection Criteria

• 1. Proven experience in the installation and termination of ELV communications cabling consistent with Australian Standards, Building Code requirements and site-specific requirements.
• 2. Professional communications skills appropriate to working with executive level stakeholders.
• 3. Proactive approach to managing and completing work tasks, ensuring agreed timelines are maintained.
• 4. Adherence to health and safety requirements ensuring all work is conducted without creating risks to workers or building occupants.
• 5. Willingness to collaborate with other members of the team and facilitate knowledge sharing for the overall benefits of the section.
