Job summary

Department of Parliamentary Services in Canberra is seeking a qualified professional to supervise a team of technical officers responsible for broadcasting and communications systems within Parliament House. You will lead complex repairs, installations and maintenance of radio and television equipment, while coordinating with clients to meet their requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in applying technical analysis and fault finding, networking, electronics repair and maintenance, and system integration.
• Ability to work independently and lead a team in a Parliamentary Service Level 6 role.
• Awareness of latest technology in broadcasting and communications industries for a high-tempo environment.
• Ability to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders, including parliamentarians, officials, staff, suppliers and contractors.
• A strong client focus with a demonstrated capacity to negotiate with a broad range of important clients in a complex environment.
• Adherence to health and safety requirements ensuring all work is conducted without creating risks to workers or building occupants.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of technical officers and coordinate day to day operations of broadcasting and communication systems in APH.
• Undertake complex repairs, maintenance, operations and, as required, installation of radio and television broadcast, communication and related equipment located within Parliament House
• Liaise with clients in relation to their requirements and/or problems and ensure that all work is undertaken in a professional and timely manner.
• Undertake technical tasks to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of broadcasting operations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of work practices, systems and processes by leading the development of standard operating procedures and regular reporting

Immediate supervisor: Assistant Director, Broadcasting Infrastructure and Support

Duty Statement

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 1. Supervise a team of technical officers and coordinate day to day operations of broadcasting and communication systems in APH.
• 2. Undertake complex repairs, maintenance, operations and, as required, installation of radio and television broadcast, communication and related equipment located within Parliament House
• 3. Liaise with clients in relation to their requirements and/or problems and ensure that all work is undertaken in a professional and timely manner.
• 4. Undertake technical tasks to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of broadcasting operations.
• 5. Contribute to continuous improvement of work practices, systems and processes by leading the development of standard operating procedures and regular reporting

Note: Staff may be deployed to duties of an equivalent level in this area of the section, to meet changing work priorities. They will be required to work extended and/or irregular hours on an as required basis.

Selection Criteria

• 1. Proven experience in applying technical analysis and fault finding, networking, electronics repair and maintenance, and system integration skills to support complex broadcasting and communication environments.
• 2. Ability to work independently and lead a team in accordance with expectations of a Parliamentary Service Level 6.
• 3. An awareness of the latest technology used in the broadcasting, communications and related industries and how to apply this in a high-tempo, complex environment.
• 4. Ability to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders, including parliamentarians, officials, staff, suppliers and contractors.
