Job summary

Blackwoods is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support the Store Manager in leading a high‑performing retail team in Canberra. You will drive sales, coach staff, maintain stock, and ensure a safe, engaging workplace. You may rotate into Store Manager duties and weekends are required on a rotating roster.

You will lead from the front, develop team capabilities, and foster exceptional customer experiences while upholding WHS and company standards in a busy retail environment.

Qualifications

• Proven retail leadership experience in an Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager or Team Leader role.
• Strong people leadership skills with experience coaching, developing and managing team performance.
• Demonstrated success achieving sales targets, KPIs and commercial outcomes.
• A customer-first mindset with a proven track record of delivering exceptional service and building customer relationships.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance operational execution with business performance.
• Trade background, retail tooling, maintenance or DYI home expert – any experience with wide range of tools is highly regarded but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Drive sales, gross profit and overall store performance to achieve business targets.
• Lead, coach and develop team members to deliver exceptional customer service and sales results.
• Build strong customer relationships and ensure a consistently outstanding customer experience.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management of team members.
• Ensure compliance with WHS, company policies, procedures and operational standards.
• Oversee day‑to‑day store operations, including stock management, merchandising and acting as Store Manager when required.
