Job summary

Queensland Government seeks an experienced individual in the leadership stream to supervise a team and support the Manager in applying HR processes. The role emphasizes governance, quality assurance, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders from our Cairns regional office.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, staff engagement, coaching, and the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and escalate issues as required.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising and leading a team, including supporting the Manager in applying human resource management processes.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, respond to new and unexpected events, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Experience in the criminal justice environment or governed systems, with the ability to rapidly acquire necessary knowledge.
• Ability to maintain governance and oversight systems, using information to support service delivery and quality assurance.
• Strong written and oral communication with attention to detail in complex reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven skills in staff engagement including coaching, mentoring and staff development; experience in difficult conversations, negotiating resolutions and reporting actions.

Job description

The most suitable applicant will demonstrate their applied knowledge, skills and experiences against these essential role requirements of the Individual contributor leadership stream:Experience and a demonstrated skill set for supervising and leading a team including supporting the Manager in the application of human resource management processes;Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, respond to new and unexpected events and appropriately escalate issues;Experience in the criminal justice environment including the interpretation and application of legislation, policy and practice directives in an operational environment is preferable or alternatively possess a similar work experience that demonstrates your previous exposure to governed systems and an ability to rapidly acquire necessary knowledge;Demonstrated ability to maintain governance and oversight systems including using information to support service delivery and performance as well as to maintain effective quality assurance processes;Strong written and oral communication skills and an attention to detail in this regard including in the preparation of and completion of complex reports, for both internal and external stakeholders; andProven skills in staff engagement including coaching, mentoring and staff development as well as experience in conducting difficult conversations, negotiating resolutions and appropriately reporting issues and actions.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/701402/26Closing Date: Thursday, 1st October 2026This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
