Job summary

Queensland Corrective Services is seeking an experienced leader to provide operational leadership and management to sentence management staff across sites, ensuring quality assurance, governance, and compliant prisoner detention, security classification, and progression planning.

You will oversee HR functions within the work unit, monitor staff performance, training and development, and analyse trends and workloads to allocate resources effectively.

Job description

In this role you will provide operational leadership and management to sentence management staff, both at individual locations and where required across broader regional hubs. The position is responsible for ensuring quality assurance and governance oversight of all tasks completed to ensure the lawful detention of prisoners, appropriate prisoner security classification and placement in accordance with their delegated authority, as well as putting appropriate plans in place for prisoner progression.

Management of the work unit's human resource functions is also required and this will include managing staff performance, training and development, as well as analyse trends and workloads to ensure adequate resource allocation within their teams.

Requirements

• Experience and demonstrated skill leading and managing a team including the application of human resource management processes
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, respond to new and unexpected events and appropriately escalatesissues
• Experience in the criminal justice environment including the interpretation and application of legislation, policy and practice directives in an operational environment is preferable or alternatively possess a similar work experience that demonstrates your ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge
• Ability to manage governance and oversight systems, and experience in quality assurance
• Ability to build and manage relationships with peers, team members, internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to promote and maintain a learning environment where staff development is valued and supported and seen as an integral feature of the work environment
