Our team

Bayside Council is an exciting place to work, live and play. More than 160,000 people call Bayside home, and our location at Sydney’s southern gateway means change is constant and the opportunities are real. Our Finance team supports Council to make sound decisions and deliver exceptional service with transparency, integrity and a strong customer focus.

The role

The job might sound simple, yet it’s a critical in supporting Council’s operations. This role is within the financial services team, along with 2 other team members you will manage invoices, credit notes, reconcile supplier accounts, and preparing EFT payments to help ensure every supplier is paid accurately and on time. You will also guide staff through Accounts Payable processes, respond to supplier enquiries and investigate anything that does not look quite right.

What to expect:
  • The detail matters. You will verify and process supplier invoices and credit notes promptly and accurately, in line with Council procedures and GST requirements.
  • Prepare EFT payment runs and work with our Assistant Accountant to ensure sufficient funds are available.
  • Find and fix issues by reconciling statements and resolve issues before they affect payment.
  • Deliver exceptional service by responding promptly and professionally to suppliers, provide clear advice and practical assistance internally to Council staff with the Accounts Payable process.
  • Empower people by making suggestions for improving processes and testing systems for smarter ways of working.
  • Attention to detail is important. Without losing momentum when transaction volumes are high and the deadline is approaching, you will notice that duplicate invoice, a purchase order that doesn’t look like our format, the GST number that doesn’t add up.
  • Own your work with minimal supervision. Meet deadlines and attempt to resolve issues. Support is always available, ask for assistance when you need it.
About you:
  • A Higher School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in Accounts Payable.
  • Good communication skills. Respond clearly and build constructive relationships across Council and its suppliers.
