Job summary

Life in Byron is seeking a hands-on Hostel Operations Lead to manage a small team, oversee guest experiences and daily operations in Byron Bay. This on-site role requires a friendly, proactive manager who can keep rooms and facilities spotless while delivering memorable stays.

You'll supervise cleaners, a gardener, weekend supervisor and night security, with Tue-Sat 9:30am–4pm hours and after-hours phone support.

Qualifications

• Experience in accommodation or travel industry.
• Proficient with Cloudbeds or a similar PMS.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Willingness to do hands-on cleaning daily.
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia; WHV considered for Byron.

Responsibilities

• Lead and train a small team including cleaners, gardener, and security contractor.
• Oversee day-to-day operations: check-ins/outs, reservations, maintenance and admin.
• Drive occupancy and revenue through pricing, marketing and partnerships.
• Provide after-hours phone support as needed.

• Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30am–4pm on-site, with after-hours phone support required.

What You'll Do

Guests

• Be the face of Life in Byron — warm, responsive, and great in a tricky situation.
• Handle enquiries, complaints and requests with professionalism and care.

Operations & Cleaning

• Run day-to-day operations: reservations, check-ins, check-outs, maintenance, ordering, admin, people management and everything else that comes up in a day!
• Work alongside your team to keep rooms, grounds and facilities spotless - this is hands‑on, not just oversight.
• Lead and coordinate our cleaners, gardener and security contractors.
• Build strong relationships with partners and suppliers.

Business & Growth

• Manage expenses and pricing to keep occupancy and revenue strong.
• Drive marketing and social media to bring new guests through the door.
• Build ties with local businesses and tourism partners.

What You'll Bring

• Excellent spoken and written English (bonus points for more languages)
• Accommodation or travel industry experience, a MUST!
• Experience using Cloudbeds or a similar property management system!!
• Great computer and admin skills - Google Workspace
• A genuine willingness to do hands‑on cleaning and physical work daily
• Availability by phone outside your on-site hours
• Ready to start immediately
• Applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia. (A minimum of 11 months on any WHV and plans to stay in Byron)
