Kontron Transportation in Vienna seeks an experienced Senior Android Developer to architect, build, and maintain mission-critical mobile apps for rugged devices. You’ll join the Mobile App Development team, delivering low-latency, secure communications for public-safety grade networks.

You’ll design native Android apps with Kotlin, optimize performance, and collaborate in an agile environment using Jira and Confluence, with flexible hours and a modern Vienna office.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with production deployments.
• Strong understanding of TCP/UDP, WebSockets, IP networking, QoS and real-time media streaming.
• Experience managing device power, memory, and performance under constrained hardware.
• Proven testing culture with unit/UI tests and code reviews.
• Experience with Jira/Confluence in agile teams.
• Nice to have MCX/LMR and MDM exposure.

For our location in Vienna, we are looking for an experienced Senior Android Developer to architect, build, and maintain our next-generation Mission Critical Communications (voice, data and video). Will be integrated on the Mobile App Development team, working on new functions and features while adapting our flagship Mobile Applications to new devices ensuring the operation in high-stakes environments where reliability, latency, and security are paramount.

Your tasks

• Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Design, build, and maintain high-performance native Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, tailored for ruggedized mobile hardware and specialized handheld devices.
• Architect and implement low-latency real-time audio/video streaming and communication protocols, including SIP, RTP, WebRTC, and 3GPP MCX standards (MCPTT, MCVideo, MCData).
• Optimize background and foreground services to guarantee continuous connectivity, instant call setup times.
• Implement rigorous data security practices, including end-to-end encryption (E2EE), and compliance hardening for public safety standards.
• Establish rigorous testing standards, including automated unit, integration, and stress tests tailored for network jitter, packet loss, and low-battery scenarios.
• Partner closely with our cross-functional engineering squads, seamlessly following our established development processes and agile workflows to keep our release cycles predictable and code quality high.

Your qualification

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with a track record of deploying complex, high-reliability applications to production.
• Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/UDP, WebSockets, IP networking, QoS) and real-time media streaming.
• Proven experience managing device power consumption, memory management, and performance profiling under constrained hardware limits.
• Strong background in writing robust, testable code backed by comprehensive unit and UI testing frameworks with a sense of quality for clean code, testing, and code Reviews.
• Passion for collaborating in an agile, interdisciplinary team while using our standard collaboration tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Hands-on experience with 3GPP Mission Critical Services (MCX) or Land Mobile Radio (LMR) is nice to have
• Familiarity with enterprise Mobile Device Management (MDM) rollouts is a plus
• Prior experience in public safety, defense, aerospace, or industrial IoT software development is an advantage

We offer a competitive gross annual salary starting at EUR 55,000 per year. A higher salary commensurate with your actual qualifications and experience is possible.
