Job summary

bunq is expanding into Austria and seeking an AML Manager Austria to be the accountable local compliance owner. You’ll drive the EU passporting process, set up Austrian AML/CFT operations, and build AI-powered processes to cover what a full department would.

You’ll operate solo without a local team, reporting into HQ Compliance, and act as the liaison with the FMA, managing supervisory dialogues, audits, and inspections.

Qualifications

• Live in Austria and are fluent in German and English.
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of the Austrian AML/CFT framework and FMA requirements, ideally from 7+ years in AML, fraud, KYC or CDD
• Experience contributing to a regulatory notification or licensing process, such as EU passporting or a banking/EMI license application
• A track record of owning a compliance program end to end and using AI tools to automate the work
• Sound regulatory judgment and a feel for balancing risk with the needs of a fast-growing tech company
• Nice to have: experience with AML inspections or regulatory audits, or with a role that owned several compliance areas at once.

Responsibilities

• Lead Austria entry by shaping passporting content to the FMA and set up reporting line to HQ Compliance.
• Adapt AML/CFT framework to Austrian law, own the integrity risk assessment and oversee FIU reporting using AI-first processes.
• Be bunq's trusted contact for the FMA, leading supervisory dialogues, audits and inspections.
