Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable systems for a product-led engineering team. This role focuses on Java and/or Kotlin with Spring Boot, GraphQL, MongoDB Atlas, Aurora MySQL on AWS, and AWS-native tooling.

You will work on cost-savings, observability, and operational tooling while contributing to system architecture and code reviews. Strong English proficiency required, with flexible remote/office options.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend-focused software development experience.
• Proficient in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Proficient in MongoDB Atlas (NoSQL).
• Proficient in Aurora MySQL on AWS (RDBMS).
• Experience building cloud-native distributed systems on AWS.
• Experience with Spring Boot framework.
• API development with GraphQL (Netflix DGS).
• Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance systems on a major cloud platform.
• Upper-intermediate English level.

Responsibilities

• Take on lower-priority engineering work the team lacks bandwidth for, including compliance and maintenance, cost-savings, observability, and operational tooling.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable software systems.
• Contribute to system architecture and design, validating solutions through data and experimentation.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers.
• Partner with a Product Manager and fellow engineers to clarify requirements and perform mid-level design work, focusing on coding, testing, and documentation.
