Role Context
The Workplace Health and Safety Manager will lead safety management for Amazon 's third-party quick commerce operations, including dark stores, micro-fulfillment locations, rider dispatch areas, and last-mile transport activities. The role requires oversight of both facility-based and road-related risks in a fast-moving environment where groceries, perishables, household essentials, and other high-frequency products are prepared and delivered rapidly. The manager will establish safety standards, monitor performance, investigate incidents, develop preventive controls, and guide both internal teams and third-party partners. The position also carries leadership responsibility for the WHS team and will contribute to regional safety initiatives across markets where Amazon Now operations are expanding.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular safety visits across dark stores and quick commerce facilities.
- Evaluate workplace conditions in high-throughput operating environments and recommend practical risk-reduction measures.
- Perform detailed risk assessments covering store operations, rider activities, material handling, equipment use, and dispatch processes.
- Assess both under-the-roof and on-the-road safety risks.
- Review rider movement, transport methods, loading practices, and dispatch activities for compliance and operational safety.
- Conduct safety audits in accordance with Amazon standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor workplace health and safety metrics, incident data, leading indicators, and recurring risk trends.
- Prepare clear safety performance reports for operational and regional stakeholders.
- Use data to identify priority risk areas and determine where stronger controls or interventions are required.
- Develop new safety procedures and mitigation measures suited to dark store layouts and rapid fulfillment workflows.
- Implement controls for picking, packing, dispatch, material movement, and rider operations.
- Ensure compliance with Amazon WHS requirements and third-party safety policies.
- Monitor adherence to applicable local and regional health and safety regulations.
- Lead daily and weekly safety briefings with operations teams and external partners.
- Reinforce safe working expectations in fast-paced operational environments.
- Support investigations into accidents, near misses, serious injuries, and other safety events.
- Ensure incidents are documented accurately and reported within required timelines.
- Lead or support root cause analysis and identify corrective and preventive actions.
- Track corrective actions until they are completed and verified.
- Support delivery and completion of safety training for associates, riders, and third-party partners.
- Verify training effectiveness through observation, audits, and workplace engagement.
- Attend regional WHS meetings and represent quick commerce safety priorities.
- Share emerging risks, incident trends, and required actions with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Lead country or regional continuous improvement projects related to workplace health and safety.
- Develop scalable safety solutions that can be applied across multiple quick commerce locations.
- Support expansion into new markets by assessing safety readiness and implementation requirements.
- Lead, coach, and develop members of the WHS team.
- Support recruitment of safety professionals and contribute to building a capable regional team.
- Promote a strong safety culture across internal and partner operations.
- Work closely with operations leadership to integrate safety requirements into everyday business decisions.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in workplace health and safety or environmental programs.
- Experience gained within manufacturing, production, service operations, logistics, fulfillment, or similar environments.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate, Health and Safety NVQ Level 3, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Strong understanding of operational health and safety management.
- Experience managing risk across both facility-based and road-based operations is highly desirable.
- Practical experience with rider, fleet, transport, or last-mile delivery safety is advantageous.
- Familiarity with high-throughput warehousing, micro-fulfillment, or quick commerce environments is beneficial.
- Experience developing and implementing risk controls and safety procedures.
- Strong background in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to interpret safety metrics and identify operational trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Experience creating pivot tables, charts, graphics, and management reporting.
- Previous exposure to lean principles or operational process improvement is preferred.
- Strong leadership capability with experience coaching or managing safety professionals.
