Job summary

Tektora is building out a software team in Abu Dhabi for cellular communications products, seeking senior Kotlin and Java engineers. The role is open to relocation and supports international candidates.

The position targets backend engineers who enjoy deep stacks and distributed, message-driven systems in a regulated defence-tech environment, with Kotlin/Java in production pipelines and CI/CD tooling.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in JVM software development with Kotlin
• Functional, reactive and message-based programming in production
• Domain Driven Design and Test Driven Development
• Able to plan and work from written specs

• BSc or equivalent in Computer Science

Responsibilities

• Research, design and development of cellular communications products in Kotlin, using Akka, Gradle, GitLab and Docker
• Build actor-based, reactive systems designed around Domain Driven Design
• Develop and maintain the CI/CD pipeline, and write unit, integration and end-to-end tests
• Collaborate with developers, architects and product managers to deliver production-grade solutions
• Contribute to technical and architectural decisions

Software Engineer – Kotlin / Java (Cellular Communications)

Tektora are supporting an established defence technology client who are building out the software team behind their cellular communications products in Abu Dhabi, and are looking to speak with senior Kotlin and Java engineers.

This role is open to relocation. The client is actively considering candidates from outside the UAE and will support the move for the right person.

This role would suit a backend engineer who is comfortable a long way down the stack — someone who has built distributed, message-driven systems and wants the domain to be real cellular communications rather than another CRUD service.

The Role

You will be involved in:

• Research, design and development of cellular communications products in Kotlin, using Akka, Gradle, GitLab and Docker
• Building actor-based, reactive systems designed around Domain Driven Design principles
• Developing and maintaining the CI/CD pipeline, and writing unit, integration and end-to-end tests
• Working alongside developers, system architects and product managers to deliver production-grade solutions
• Contributing to technical and architectural decisions rather than only implementing them
• Working in multi-disciplinary Agile teams

Key Experience Required

• 10+ years in JVM software development, with substantial recent commercial Kotlin
• Functional programming, message-based communication and reactive programming in production
• Domain Driven Design and Test Driven Development
• Comfortable working from written specifications and building tooling against them
• Self-directed — able to plan and run a piece of work without close supervision
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and debugging skills
• BSc or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field
• Telecoms or cellular protocol exposure — 4G/5G core, RAN, SIP, Diameter, SS7
• Gradle, GitLab CI and Docker in a production pipeline
• Defence, aerospace or another regulated, high-assurance environment
