Systems Engineer - Military Communications (C4I)
Type: Permanent
Salary: Dependent on experience
Relocation: Open to candidates relocating - international applicants welcome
Company: Tektora, supporting an established defence technology client
Tektora are supporting an established defence technology client who are building out their C4I applications development team in Abu Dhabi and are looking to speak with senior Systems Engineers from a military communications background.
This role is open to relocation. The client is actively considering candidates from outside the UAE and will support the move for the right person.
This role would suit an experienced communications systems engineer who enjoys owning a design from stakeholder requirements through to a working, interoperable system - someone comfortable working across radio, network and security disciplines rather than staying in one lane.
The Role
You will be involved in:
- Analysing high-level and stakeholder requirements, and deriving new requirements from system down to component level
- Developing system designs in line with MBSE principles and ensuring requirements flow down into the design solution
- Producing and documenting interface designs and Interface Control Documents
- Designing communication architectures and components that interoperate with military platforms - HF/VHF/UHF radio, tactical data links and SATCOM
- Developing, configuring and testing communication protocols, including MIL-STD, IP-based protocols and secure wireless networks
- Integrating COTS and custom-built hardware and software into military networks
- Supporting system design reviews, and identifying and managing technical risk
- Working alongside software, integration, simulation, QA and configuration management teams to deliver product baselines
Key Experience Required
- Degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) in Computer, Software, Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering, or Mathematics
- 8+ years in communications systems engineering
- Strong grounding in tactical and strategic military communication systems - protocols, waveforms and encryption - across design, integration and interoperability
- Network architecture experience for military systems: tactical WAN/LAN, mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), IP over radio and SATCOM
- Hands-on implementation across the TCP/IP stack, including Ethernet, VLANs (802.1Q), serial (RS-232/422/485), HTTP/S, SNMP, VoIP and SSH
- Experience delivering systems compliant with military certification requirements
- Familiarity with systems engineering best practice (INCOSE or NASA SE Handbook)
- Strong network monitoring and packet analysis skills (Wireshark, tcpdump, NetFlow)
- Working knowledge of Linux and command-line diagnostics
- Able to explain technical detail clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Requirements management tooling such as DOORS
- MBSE modelling languages (SysML, UML) and V-Model development
- Network simulation tools and RF analysis equipment
- Cybersecurity and information assurance for military communication systems
- Electronic warfare and cyber defence exposure
- Military standards such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461
