The SHE Specialist supports project teams by maintaining effective safety, health, and environmental controls throughout day-to-day operations. Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation and ongoing maintenance of project safety, health, and environmental programs.
- Monitor workplace activities to identify unsafe conditions, occupational hazards, and potential exposure risks.
- Assist project teams in maintaining compliance with established SHE standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in investigations involving accidents, injuries, near misses, complaints, and unsafe workplace conditions.
- Document findings from safety observations and contribute to corrective and preventive action plans.
- Recommend improvements to work methods, equipment, layouts, procedures, and operational controls where hazards are identified.
- Review project activities to determine whether appropriate safety measures are being followed.
- Assist in maintaining SHE procedures, inspection systems, monitoring processes, and compliance documentation.
- Support employee safety training and help communicate practical requirements for safe working practices.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response planning.
- Monitor potential health risks and workplace conditions that could affect employees or project personnel.
- Work with engineers, supervisors, contractors, and project representatives to resolve safety concerns.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and strengthen project safety performance.
- Maintain accurate records relating to inspections, incidents, corrective actions, and SHE activities.
- Support quality reviews of safety programs to confirm that established controls remain effective.
- Escalate significant hazards, recurring safety concerns, and non-compliant practices to appropriate project leadership.
- Promote consistent application of safety procedures across supervised project activities.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in safety, health, and environmental roles.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or supervising SHE requirements on projects.
- Strong understanding of workplace hazard identification and risk control practices.
- Experience participating in accident, incident, injury, or near-miss investigations.
- Familiarity with safety management systems, compliance procedures, and project inspection requirements.
- Ability to evaluate work practices and recommend realistic improvements that reduce operational hazards.
- Experience supporting employee safety awareness and training activities.
- Sound understanding of emergency preparedness and workplace response procedures.
- Comfortable working within active project and construction environments.
- Strong observational capability with attention to unsafe conditions and procedural deviations.
- Able to communicate clearly with project managers, engineers, supervisors, contractors, and site personnel.
