Role Context
The Senior Project Manager leads the development and implementation of multidisciplinary projects supporting ADNOC upstream operations and production assets. The position manages the complete project lifecycle, coordinating engineering, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, contractors, consultants, and technical authorities. The role is responsible for ensuring project scope, schedule, cost, quality, HSE, and operational requirements remain aligned from inception through handover. Strong project governance and early identification of execution risks are essential to maintaining asset reliability, supporting production objectives, and delivering technically sound facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multidisciplinary projects from initial concept and project definition through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, handover, and closeout.
- Develop project execution strategies that align technical, operational, commercial, HSE, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Establish project plans, milestones, deliverables, resource requirements, and implementation priorities.
- Coordinate project activities across engineering, operations, construction, planning, procurement, HSE, quality, and technical support functions.
- Ensure project scope is clearly defined and maintained throughout execution.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules and identify potential delays, constraints, or critical path issues.
- Develop recovery and mitigation plans when project performance deviates from approved targets.
- Maintain effective control over project budgets, commitments, expenditure, forecasts, and cost performance.
- Review project estimates and identify opportunities to improve cost effectiveness while maintaining technical integrity.
- Coordinate engineering studies and ensure designs meet approved company standards, operating requirements, and field conditions.
- Review technical deliverables and ensure appropriate multidisciplinary integration.
- Ensure project designs incorporate constructability, maintainability, operability, reliability, and safety requirements.
- Identify technical and execution risks at an early stage and coordinate appropriate mitigation measures.
- Supervise contractor and consultant performance throughout project implementation.
- Review contractor execution plans, schedules, progress reports, engineering submissions, and supporting project documentation.
- Conduct regular project progress meetings and ensure outstanding actions are assigned and closed within agreed deadlines.
- Coordinate with procurement and contracting teams on project materials, equipment, services, and contractor requirements.
- Monitor delivery of critical materials and equipment to ensure alignment with construction schedules.
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project procedures.
- Maintain strong HSE oversight and ensure contractors comply with ADNOC policies, procedures, and Codes of Practice.
- Coordinate inspection, testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure commissioning plans provide a structured transition from construction to safe operational readiness.
- Coordinate with operations teams to prepare facilities for handover and integration with existing assets.
- Verify that punch-list items, outstanding technical issues, and completion documentation are properly closed.
- Ensure as-built drawings, operating manuals, technical records, and project dossiers are completed before final handover.
- Manage interfaces between project teams, operational assets, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure modifications to existing facilities are appropriately controlled and coordinated.
- Support Management of Change requirements where projects affect existing operating facilities.
- Provide regular project status updates to management covering scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, HSE, and key decisions.
- Prepare and deliver project presentations, management reports, and progress reviews.
- Escalate significant project risks, deviations, or contractual issues requiring management intervention.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical and managerial direction to assigned personnel.
- Support training, mentoring, and development of project engineering personnel.
- Contribute to preparation of project and departmental budgets and approved work plans.
- Implement applicable project management policies, systems, processes, standards, and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery methods, engineering workflows, and execution efficiency.
- Apply lessons learned and recognized industry practices to future projects.
- Maintain compliance with applicable legislation, HSE requirements, sustainability standards, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
Ideal Profile
The successful candidate should have substantial experience managing multidisciplinary projects within oil and gas, energy, petrochemical, or similarly complex industrial environments. A strong understanding of the complete project lifecycle is essential, including feasibility, concept development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operational handover, and closeout. Candidates should be capable of managing complex interfaces between engineering disciplines, operations, contractors, consultants, procurement teams, and senior stakeholders while maintaining control over cost, schedule, quality, and HSE performance. Experience with brownfield developments, operating facilities, production assets, plant modifications, commissioning, and Management of Change activities will be particularly relevant. The role requires strong decision-making capability, project governance, contractor management, risk management, technical coordination, and the ability to lead multiple workstreams simultaneously.
