Role Context

The Senior Petroleum Engineer will support the development and implementation of Digital Oil Field solutions that improve production efficiency and reservoir management across ADNOC operations. Working closely with Field Development, Petroleum Development, Field Operations, technical teams, technology providers, and contractors, the position will translate production challenges into practical digital solutions using real-time field data, intelligent well technologies, remote surveillance, and production optimization tools. The role has a direct impact on oil and gas recovery by improving the balance between production and injection, strengthening well surveillance, optimizing gas lift performance, and enabling faster technical decisions through reliable field data and advanced monitoring systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical studies, background papers, and engineering summaries covering Digital Oil Field concepts and specific production challenges.
  • Identify new technologies and technical solutions capable of improving petroleum engineering and field operating practices.
  • Evaluate emerging Digital Oil Field technologies and recommend viable solutions for pilot testing or wider implementation.
  • Support Digital Oil Field programs involving rigless operations, well testing, stimulation, and production optimization.
  • Optimize the performance of oil and gas producing wells as well as water supply, water injection, and gas injection wells.
  • Participate in commissioning and implementation of field technology trials and proof-of-concept programs.
  • Monitor field testing activities, analyse operational performance, and prepare technical evaluation reports with implementation recommendations.
  • Survey available gas lift optimization technologies and identify solutions with potential application across operating fields.
  • Develop and coordinate pilot studies for gas lift optimization and recommend wider deployment when technical and commercial results are successful.
  • Work with Petroleum Development teams to assess the use of downhole pressure, temperature, flow rate measurements, and downhole control valves.
  • Support implementation of smart well completion technologies that strengthen production surveillance and reservoir management.
  • Provide technical advice on remote monitoring, remote control, and field surveillance systems used for production optimization.
  • Recommend surveillance tools supporting reservoir management, oil production optimization, gas lift performance, and gas injection operations.
  • Initiate Terms of Reference and Scope of Work documentation for Digital Oil Field projects and applications.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of Digital Oil Field proposals, technologies, contractors, and engineering solutions.
  • Map critical production management processes and identify the data, digital systems, and analytical tools required to improve performance.
  • Coordinate with technical units, Field Operations, support teams, and information technology functions during Digital Oil Field implementation.
  • Maintain technical engagement with service providers, equipment suppliers, contractors, manufacturers, ADNOC entities, and other operating companies.
  • Plan and coordinate assigned technical activities to achieve unit and divisional objectives.
  • Provide technical coaching and development support to assigned personnel.
  • Contribute to preparation of unit and divisional budgets and assist with implementation of approved work plans.
  • Investigate significant budget or performance variances and support appropriate corrective measures.
  • Implement approved engineering policies, procedures, standards, systems, and work processes in accordance with company and international requirements.
  • Develop new tools, techniques, and workflows that improve operational efficiency and production management.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance internal engineering processes using industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Comply with ADNOC HSE requirements and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or occupational health concerns.
  • Perform assigned emergency responsibilities in accordance with established emergency response procedures.
  • Provide technical input for management information systems, section reports, and operational progress reporting.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor 's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 10 years of petroleum engineering experience is required, with substantial practical exposure to production operations, well completion, workover activities, well testing, and production optimization. The position is particularly suitable for an engineer with strong knowledge of intelligent field technologies, production surveillance, gas lift optimization, well intervention, injection systems, and reservoir-performance monitoring. Candidates should be capable of interpreting production and downhole data, assessing new technologies, designing field trials, evaluating technical results, and converting operational requirements into effective Digital Oil Field solutions. Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary petroleum engineering, reservoir, production, operations, technology, and service-provider teams will be important for successful delivery.
