Job summary

MTEC Electromechanical Works LLC in Abu Dhabi seeks a Senior Mechanical Lead to provide technical leadership for HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire-fighting engineering deliverables, ensuring coordinated design, accuracy and timely approvals.

The role requires 15+ years of MEP experience with major contractors, strong knowledge of UAE standards, AutoCAD and Revit, and proven ability to review drawings, calculations and submittals while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire-fighting and building-services coordination.

Responsibilities

• Review mechanical contract drawings, specifications, BOQs, design criteria and identify design gaps, conflicts and technical risks.
• Prepare or review shop drawings, coordinated layouts, schematics, plantroom details and method statements.
• Perform HVAC load, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment-selection calculations as applicable.
• Coordinate HVAC, CHW, plumbing, drainage, water supply, fire-fighting with architecture, structure, electrical and BIM teams.
• Lead consultant/client technical discussions and close comments on drawings and calculations within the project programme.
• Provide technical support for site constraints, testing, commissioning issues, balancing and system performance.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Provide senior mechanical technical leadership for HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire-fighting engineering deliverables, ensuring coordinated design, technical compliance, constructability and timely approvals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review mechanical contract drawings, specifications, BOQs, design criteria and equipment schedules and identify design gaps, conflicts and technical risks.
• Prepare/review shop drawings, coordinated layouts, schematics, plantroom details, sections, builders-work drawings, material submittals, RFIs and method statements.
• Perform or verify HVAC load, ventilation, duct sizing, pipe sizing, pump head, pressure-drop and equipment-selection calculations as applicable.
• Coordinate HVAC, CHW, plumbing, drainage, water supply, fire-fighting and specialist mechanical services with architecture, structure, electrical and BIM teams.
• Review technical offers for chillers, AHUs/FCUs, fans, pumps, tanks, water heaters, valves, sanitaryware and fire-fighting equipment and document compliance/deviations.
• Lead consultant/client technical discussions and close comments on drawings, materials and calculations within the project programme.
• Ensure plantroom access, maintenance clearances, drainage strategy, ceiling coordination, shafts, sleeves and equipment logistics are resolved before construction.
• Provide technical support for site constraints, design changes, testing/commissioning issues, balancing, flushing, pressure testing and system performance.
• Support authority approvals where applicable and ensure handover documentation reflects approved and installed systems.
• Mentor mechanical technical engineers and maintain internal checking standards for technical submissions.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant mechanical MEP experience, preferably with major MEP contractors on complex building projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire-fighting and building-services coordination.
• Sound understanding of ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IPC/UPC and relevant UAE/local authority requirements as applicable.
• Demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing calculations, shop drawings, material submittals, RFIs and equipment selections.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/Navisworks and engineering calculation tools are preferred.
• UAE/GCC experience with large residential, hospitality, commercial, healthcare or mixed-use developments is strongly preferred.
• Strong analytical, coordination and technical communication skills.
