Job summary

Design Design LLC in Dubai seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer (MEP) to lead HVAC design, load calculations, and shop drawings for turnkey projects. You will coordinate with interior design and electrical teams to resolve conflicts before on-site execution, ensuring all designs meet UAE regulations.

The role requires 5–7 years in mechanical design with design consultancy experience. The candidate will oversee site activities, prepare submittals, and support commissioning and handover,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with UAE experience preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of HVAC, firefighting, drainage and water supply design software.
• Experience creating HVAC and piping drawings and calculations for design consultancies.

Responsibilities

• Run cooling/heating load calculations and size ducts and equipment.
• Develop detailed shop drawings and layouts using AutoCAD for MEP services.
• Resolve spatial conflicts with ID, architecture, electrical and firefighting services.
• Ensure MEP designs comply with UAE regulations and prepare DM/DCD/DEWA docs.
• Prepare submittals, BOQs, and support installation and handover teams.
• Direct on-site HVAC installation activities and oversee VRF/VRV systems.

Role Description

Key Responsibilities

• Run cooling and heating load calculations using software like Carrier HAP. Size ductwork, chilled water piping, and select equipment (FCUs, AHUs, FAHUs, VRF/VRV systems).
• Develop detailed shop drawings, schematic layouts, and as-built documents using AutoCAD Software for MEP services (HVAC, Firefighting, Drainage and water supply)
• Resolve spatial conflicts with interior design (ID), architectural, electrical, and firefighting services before site execution.
• Ensure all MEP designs align with local UAE regulations and standards, preparing documentation for Dubai Municipality (DM), Dubai Civil Defense (DCD), Dubai Development Authority (DDA), or DEWA.
• Prepare material submittals, technical compliance sheets, and BOQs (Bill of Quantities). Support site and commissioning teams during installation and handover.
• Manage day-to-day HVAC installation works on site according to approved drawings.
• Oversee setup of VRF/VRV systems, ductwork, chilled water piping, FCUs, AHUs, and ventilation fans.
• Direct technicians, ductmen, pipe fitters, and subcontractors while monitoring daily work progress.
• Assist in testing, adjusting, balancing (TAB), commissioning, and final authority inspections.
• Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
• Prepares project update report (daily, weekly and monthly) and monitors daily accomplishments of contractor.
• Review and approve contractor submittals, resolve technical issues arising and ensure compliance with contract requirements
• Check shop drawings, material submittals, and request for information (RFI) documents before execution.
• Timely monitoring of the project in terms on MEP systems.
• Ensure strict implementation of MEP Works in accordance with the approved plans and specifications, including safety and timely housekeeping
• Responsible for the timely completion of all works and activities related in MEP works in particular and the whole project in general.
• Responsible for the Testing and Commissioning of MEP System.

KEY SKILLS AND INTERESTS

• Works effectively under pressure and where both demanding and stringent deadlines are present.
• Readily accepts change, and adapts quickly by recognizing the benefits and promotes change to others in a positive manner
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, and DuctSizer; Revit MEP is a strong plus.
• Strong familiarity with ASHRAE, SMACNA, and local UAE/Dubai fire and life safety codes
• Has knowledge of on-site inspections and site execution.

• Good knowledge of HVAC, firefighting, drainage and water supply design software.
• Experience working with and creating HVAC and piping drawings and calculations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of HAP, HASS etc.
• Strong initiative and excellent problem-solving skills
• Must be immediately available
• Extensive experience in UAE is highly preferred
