Role Context

This position provides senior-level civil and structural engineering support for refinery and petrochemical capital projects, combining design review, technical assurance, standards compliance, troubleshooting, and value improvement. As a Subject Matter Expert for the civil discipline, the Senior Civil Engineer works within the Technical Authority framework and supports project teams throughout engineering, procurement, construction, modification, and operational interfaces. The role also provides technical guidance on existing facilities where structural systems, foundations, underground services, or architectural elements require specialist assessment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for civil engineering matters across assigned projects and operating facilities.
  • Provide technical leadership and discipline-specific guidance to project and engineering teams.
  • Support implementation of the Technical Authority framework for civil and structural engineering.
  • Review civil engineering documentation throughout applicable project phases.
  • Review structural engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and design deliverables.
  • Assess architectural documents where they interface with civil, structural, or facility requirements.
  • Verify that engineering deliverables comply with approved project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Conduct gap analyses against ADNOC Group Engineering Standards.
  • Identify design deviations, technical gaps, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Recommend appropriate resolutions where project designs do not fully meet applicable engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical clarification on ADNOC engineering standards and their application to project designs.
  • Support civil and structural engineering assurance during project development and execution.
  • Troubleshoot plant issues involving structural systems and civil infrastructure.
  • Investigate problems associated with foundations and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical support for underground services and associated civil interfaces.
  • Assess structural concerns affecting operating facilities and support development of corrective measures.
  • Review proposed design changes and determine their technical impact.
  • Evaluate cost optimization proposals without compromising safety, reliability, or compliance.
  • Assess value improvement opportunities during project engineering and execution.
  • Provide recommendations on design alternatives that improve constructability, cost, or lifecycle performance.
  • Ensure civil and structural works comply with relevant international standards.
  • Ensure alignment with applicable ADNOC engineering requirements and internal procedures.
  • Support resolution of technical queries raised during design, construction, or plant modification activities.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary technical reviews where civil and structural inputs are required.

Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or an equivalent recognized engineering qualification. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the oil, gas, refining, or petrochemical industry is required. Candidates should possess strong practical knowledge of civil and structural engineering within major industrial facilities and capital project environments. Experience reviewing structural designs, foundations, underground services, architectural interfaces, and multidisciplinary engineering deliverables is important. The role requires familiarity with engineering standards, technical assurance processes, design reviews, project modifications, technical bid evaluation, and contractor or consultant assessment. Candidates should be capable of independently identifying technical issues, evaluating design alternatives, and providing clear recommendations to project and operating teams.
