Role Context
The Senior BIM Technician will coordinate digital engineering deliverables across infrastructure, bridge, utility, structural, and landscape workstreams. Acting as a central BIM contact, the position will connect supervision teams, designers, contractors, document controllers, and external stakeholders while ensuring that project models remain coordinated, traceable, and compliant with approved BIM requirements. The role contributes to safer and more efficient project delivery by identifying design conflicts before construction, controlling model information, maintaining reliable approval workflows, and providing management teams with clear visibility of unresolved digital coordination risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate BIM deliverables for major infrastructure, bridge, utility, structural, and landscape projects.
- Oversee model submissions from designers, contractors, consultants, and other project participants.
- Confirm that BIM outputs are delivered according to the approved BIM Execution Plan.
- Coordinate civil, structural, utility, architectural, and landscape models to maintain alignment across disciplines.
- Organize and lead BIM coordination meetings, model review sessions, and technical workshops.
- Manage digital interfaces, tie-in locations, and coordination points involving external stakeholders.
- Review federated and discipline models against project BIM standards and technical requirements.
- Verify compliance with required Level of Development criteria at each project stage.
- Conduct quality reviews covering model geometry, object information, metadata, classification, and file structure.
- Perform clash detection using Autodesk Navisworks or equivalent coordination software.
- Categorize clashes according to severity, ownership, location, and required resolution date.
- Assign coordination issues to responsible disciplines and monitor them through closure.
- Verify that resolved clashes have been correctly incorporated into revised project models.
- Ensure the correct use of the Common Data Environment for model exchange, review, approval, and record retention.
- Monitor file naming, revision control, folder structures, approval status, and data exchange procedures.
- Track model submissions, comments, revisions, resubmissions, and final approvals.
- Support document control teams with the organization and traceability of BIM-related records.
- Maintain model registers, issue logs, clash registers, approval trackers, and digital delivery schedules.
- Prepare weekly and milestone BIM coordination reports for the supervision management team.
- Highlight model progress, interface issues, unresolved clashes, delayed submissions, and potential project risks.
- Provide clear updates on outstanding BIM actions and required stakeholder decisions.
- Enforce project naming conventions, classification systems, coordinate systems, and approved data structures.
- Coordinate with design teams regarding model corrections, technical queries, and design modifications.
- Confirm that infrastructure models align with approved drawings, specifications, and construction requirements.
- Support the extraction of drawings, schedules, quantities, sections, and technical information from coordinated models.
- Assist site supervision teams in interpreting BIM information and resolving model-related construction issues.
- Identify digital delivery risks early and recommend practical solutions to reduce delay and rework.
- Maintain secure and accurate digital records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 7 years of BIM coordination and digital delivery experience.
- Previous involvement in large infrastructure, bridge, transportation, utility, or civil engineering projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and ACC-BIM 360.
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary coordination involving civil, structural, utility, and landscape models.
- Practical knowledge of BIM Execution Plans, Level of Development requirements, and digital delivery standards.
- Experience reviewing model geometry, metadata, classification, naming conventions, and information structures.
- Proven ability to conduct clash detection and manage issue resolution workflows.
- Familiarity with Common Data Environment procedures, document control, and revision management.
- Ability to lead BIM coordination meetings and communicate technical issues to different project disciplines.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex model interfaces.
- Experience preparing coordination reports, clash summaries, model registers, and progress dashboards.
