The Secondary Biology Teacher will guide students from fundamental biological principles towards increasingly sophisticated understanding of living systems, scientific evidence and contemporary biological research. Lessons will combine conceptual teaching with practical investigation, data interpretation and independent inquiry so students learn to approach Biology as an investigative science rather than a collection of facts. Within the school 's full IB continuum, the teacher will encourage learners to examine biological questions from scientific and global perspectives. The position has a direct impact on preparation for advanced study by developing laboratory competence, research skills, critical evaluation and the academic confidence required for demanding university pathways.
- Plan and deliver rigorous Secondary Biology lessons aligned with relevant IB curriculum requirements.
- Develop students ' understanding of cellular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, physiology and other curriculum areas.
- Design inquiry-based investigations that require students to formulate questions, evaluate evidence and draw defensible conclusions.
- Connect biological theory with laboratory investigation, current scientific applications and real-world challenges.
- Build progressively challenging learning sequences that develop both knowledge and scientific competence.
- Differentiate classroom activities to provide appropriate support and extension for diverse learners.
- Conduct practical Biology investigations using suitable laboratory equipment and scientific procedures.
- Teach students to collect, process, interpret and evaluate experimental data.
- Reinforce scientific methodology, research ethics and laboratory safety.
- Use formative assessment to identify misconceptions and adjust teaching before learning gaps become established.
- Apply summative assessment effectively to evaluate curriculum attainment and readiness for advanced study.
- Analyse student achievement data and implement targeted strategies for improvement.
- Provide precise feedback on scientific explanations, experimental reports, data analysis and examination responses.
- Prepare students for IB MYP, IB Diploma Programme or other applicable Secondary Biology pathways.
- Develop scientific literacy and encourage students to evaluate biological claims using credible evidence.
- Promote independent research, curiosity and thoughtful engagement with contemporary developments in biological science.
- Collaborate with science colleagues on curriculum mapping, assessment design and moderation.

- Recognised degree-level teaching qualification such as B.Ed, PGCE, State Teaching License or equivalent.
- Academic specialism in Biology or an appropriate related biological science.
- Minimum three years of successful Secondary Biology teaching experience.
- Experience teaching IB MYP and/or IB Diploma Programme is highly desirable.
- A-Level Biology experience is preferred for strong candidates without previous IB teaching experience.
- Excellent knowledge of Secondary Biology and practical laboratory instruction.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-led and concept-driven pedagogy.
- Ability to develop scientific reasoning rather than relying solely on content-based instruction.
- Experience planning and supervising biological investigations.
