GEMS Education is hiring an enthusiastic teacher for an August 2026 start to deliver rigorous, inquiry‑led science instruction and help students achieve strong academic outcomes. The successful candidate will join Dubai American Academy, a PreK‑to‑Grade 12 American curriculum school offering the IB Diploma Programme. The role requires excellent subject knowledge, effective differentiation, practical laboratory teaching skills, and the ability to build productive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging IB Biology lessons for high school students.
- Follow the approved curriculum, IB requirements, school policies, and departmental schemes of work.
- Develop learning experiences that strengthen scientific knowledge, inquiry, critical thinking, and problem‑solving.
- Teach biological concepts through demonstrations, practical investigations, discussions, modelling, and independent research.
- Prepare students for internal assessments, examinations, laboratory work, and other IB Diploma Programme requirements.
- Design suitable learning objectives, lesson sequences, assignments, and assessment activities.
- Maintain continuity and appropriate progression across curriculum units.
- Differentiate instruction to address varied learning needs, abilities, language profiles, and prior attainment.
- Provide appropriate extension for high‑achieving students and targeted support for learners requiring additional assistance.
- Create a positive classroom culture that encourages curiosity, participation, collaboration, and responsible scientific inquiry.
- Establish clear expectations for behaviour, laboratory safety, academic honesty, and independent study.

- Support extracurricular science activities, enrichment programmes, competitions, trips, or school events when required.

- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, student welfare, and school compliance requirements.
- Maintain safe laboratory procedures and ensure practical resources are used responsibly.

Ideal Profile
- Bachelor of Education degree with an appropriate Biology specialisation.
- Alternatively, a relevant bachelor's degree combined with a recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent.
- Proven experience teaching IB Biology at high school level.
- Previous experience within an American curriculum or IB curriculum school is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the IB Diploma Programme Biology framework, assessment expectations, and practical requirements.
- Sound understanding of inquiry‑based learning and student‑centred science education.
- Ability to design and supervise practical Biology investigations safely and effectively.
- Strong classroom management and student‑engagement skills.
- Experience differentiating instruction for students with varied learning profiles.
