Role Context

The Production Engineer will support fabrication execution by converting project requirements into practical work scopes, production priorities, material needs, and coordinated shop activities. The role sits between Engineering, Planning, Materials, Construction, subcontractors, and fabrication teams to ensure that drawings, procedures, materials, and work packs are available when needed. The position will help reduce production delays by identifying constraints early, resolving material or constructability issues, and maintaining clear visibility of fabrication progress, productivity, and upcoming work fronts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project Scope of Work, specifications, drawings, schedules, and deliverables to establish fabrication requirements.
  • Prepare detailed Scope of Work documents and Task Listings for assigned production activities.
  • Review fabrication schedules and recommend corrections or sequencing improvements to Planning personnel.
  • Assess engineering drawings for constructability before release to fabrication.
  • Identify special fabrication requirements, subcontracted activities, equipment needs, or unusual production constraints.
  • Review fabrication drawings and approve applicable documents within delegated authority.
  • Review Work Pack deliverables against the approved Work Pack Index.
  • Ensure production teams receive complete and current information before starting work.
  • Monitor drawing availability and identify engineering information that may affect upcoming fabrication activities.
  • Review four-week look‑ahead schedules and identify constraints involving materials, drawings, procedures, or resources.
  • Coordinate with Planning teams to incorporate realistic fabrication priorities into short‑term schedules.
  • Work with shop and erection floor planning teams to maintain alignment with the overall project plan.
  • Monitor fabrication execution against scheduled activities and established milestones.
  • Prepare weekly fabrication progress reports for project and production management.
  • Track production man-hours and compare actual productivity with planned performance.
  • Identify declining productivity trends and support practical corrective actions.
  • Attend production meetings and communicate significant fabrication concerns.
  • Follow up actions affecting workfront readiness and production continuity.
  • Review monthly material status reports and identify shortages or delayed deliveries.
  • Escalate material availability issues that could affect fabrication progress.
  • Review material requisitions before order placement.
  • Verify material grades, plate sizes, and quantity assumptions against project requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to use available material where technically acceptable.
  • Raise site queries or material substitution requests when alternatives may prevent production delays.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Quality teams regarding proposed material substitutions.
  • Track approved substitutions and ensure fabrication personnel receive updated instructions.
  • Coordinate material movement within the fabrication yard.
  • Support timely transfer of plates, structural materials, fabricated items, and other components between storage and work areas.
  • Maintain awareness of material priorities based on planned fabrication sequence.
  • Provide field guidance to production teams regarding project specifications and approved requirements.
  • Verify fabrication activities follow current drawings, procedures, and technical instructions.
  • Coordinate with Construction Engineers to ensure required procedures are issued on time.
  • Communicate changes in construction or fabrication methodology to affected personnel.
  • Confirm production teams understand approved revisions before continuing work.
  • Monitor scope changes and Production Revision Orders.
  • Assess how revisions may affect materials, schedule, productivity, or work already completed.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls or Planning where changes require schedule updates.
  • Maintain traceable records of production revisions and associated actions.
  • Coordinate subcontracted fabrication or specialist work within assigned scope.
  • Ensure subcontractor activities align with project schedule, technical requirements, and fabrication priorities.
  • Monitor subcontract deliverables and identify potential interface issues.
  • Review as‑built drawings and verify they reflect completed fabrication conditions.
  • Coordinate correction of discrepancies between fabrication records and final drawings.
  • Support progressive closeout of production documentation.
  • Interface with Engineering, Construction, Materials, Quality, Planning, and Yard teams to resolve fabrication problems.
  • Provide technical input where production issues require engineering judgment.
  • Identify practical improvements that enhance constructability, productivity, or material utilization.
  • Support compliance with project quality requirements and applicable fabrication standards.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding production risks, schedule concerns, and unresolved constraints.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor 's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant oil and gas experience with a major contractor, consultant, fabrication organization, or similar project environment.
  • Experience supporting structural or offshore fabrication activities is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication planning and production workflows.
  • Ability to review drawings for constructability and identify execution constraints.
  • Practical experience reviewing fabrication schedules and look‑ahead plans.
  • Understanding of material requisitioning, material availability, and substitution processes.
  • Ability to verify material grades and plate sizing assumptions.
  • Familiarity with production man‑hour tracking and productivity monitoring.
  • Experience coordinating with fabrication shops, erection areas, and construction teams.
  • Working knowledge of subcontract coordination within fabrication projects.
  • Familiarity with Work Packs and fabrication documentation.
  • Ability to review as‑built drawings and identify discrepancies.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry standards and fabrication practices.
