Position Overview
Manager Construction - Fabrication in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a senior Oil and Energy construction leadership role focused on fabrication construction management, Greenfield and Brownfield project execution, modular fabrication, subcontractor coordination, HSE compliance, QA and QC oversight, commissioning support, and detailed work planning. This role is ideal for an experienced construction manager who can lead fabrication activities, support project delivery, resolve site execution issues, and ensure construction work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project quality and schedule requirements.
Role Context
The Manager Construction - Fabrication will coordinate engineering, construction, fabrication, subcontractor, commissioning, and site execution activities across major energy projects. The role requires strong knowledge of construction principles, fabrication methods, lump sum project delivery, HSE expectations, QA and QC procedures, regulatory inspections, detailed work planning, and team performance management. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager, project management team, craft teams, subcontractors, regulatory bodies, QA and QC teams, and commissioning personnel to ensure project objectives are achieved within approved policies, budgets, schedules, and execution plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate detailed engineering and construction activities across Greenfield and Brownfield project environments.
- Align fabrication construction execution with project management expectations for HSE, quality, technical requirements, schedule, and overall performance.
- Assist the Project Manager in managing fabrication construction activities, project execution priorities, and site delivery requirements.
- Ensure project schedules are followed and provide accurate progress reporting to project leadership.
- Coordinate all construction, fabrication, craft, commissioning, and subcontractor work activities.
- Enforce company safety policies and ensure all construction teams follow approved HSE requirements.
- Ensure construction and fabrication work is performed according to company standards, project specifications, and regulatory body requirements.
- Resolve inter-craft interface issues in a timely manner and in accordance with project requirements and technical specifications.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies for required inspections, work approvals, and compliance-related activities.
- Control and maintain records of time and material receipts, time sheets, and related project documentation.
- Report project concerns, execution risks, technical issues, and resource challenges to the Project Manager.
- Audit company and subcontractor QA and QC procedures to support compliance with project quality requirements.
- Document and issue periodic progress reports covering construction status, work performance, issues, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate commissioning test work and support readiness for project handover activities.
- Monitor and document communications with crafts and subcontractors on technical, operational, and construction-related matters.
- Compile documentation related to QA and QC activities, inspection records, construction quality matters, and project close-out requirements.
- Assist the Project Manager with change management issues, including scope changes, schedule impact, and commercial coordination.
- Manage employee performance through goal setting, ongoing assessment, coaching, and feedback.
- Lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with McDermott policies and procedures.
- Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and authority for implementing company policies, procedures, HSE requirements, and project controls.
- Ensure mandatory training is completed on time by self and assigned teams.
- Support construction discipline improvements by applying industry knowledge, practical site experience, and effective workforce leadership.
- Identify and resolve technical, operational, organizational, and interface problems that affect construction effectiveness, quality, and timely project delivery.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent related education and experience.
- Minimum 10 years of construction experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a Construction Manager role.
- Experience on at least one major project is required.
- Strong experience in fabrication construction, modular fabrication, and oil and gas project execution.
- Good understanding of Greenfield and Brownfield construction environments.
- High level of knowledge and experience in developing and implementing detailed construction work planning processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of lump sum business models and project execution requirements.
- Strong understanding of HSE compliance, construction quality, QA and QC procedures, regulatory inspections, and commissioning coordination.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary construction teams, subcontractors, craft personnel, engineering teams, and project stakeholders.
- Strong leadership ability with experience managing employee performance, coaching teams, and resolving site execution challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required.
- Strong decision-making ability guided by project policies, resource requirements, budgets, business plans, and execution priorities.
