Key Responsibilities
- Develop initial product and fabrication concepts based on customer requirements, budgets, market expectations, and technical feasibility.
- Meet with engineering and product development teams to review proposed ideas, operating requirements, manufacturing constraints, and delivery priorities.
- Analyze industry developments, competitor products, customer preferences, and emerging production trends.
- Produce preliminary designs using sketches, engineering drawings, and approved computer-aided design software.
- Translate conceptual ideas into accurate three-dimensional models, detailed drawings, and technical specifications.
- Conduct theoretical assessments and design verification activities before physical production begins.
- Review design models for functionality, manufacturability, dimensional accuracy, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Select suitable product materials based on performance, durability, availability, fabrication requirements, and project specifications.
- Define practical manufacturing and assembly processes for assigned products or components.
- Prepare production-related documentation including design notes, material information, drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions.
- Support the preparation of prototypes, mock‑ups, test pieces, or trial assemblies where required.
- Monitor product assembly and fabrication to confirm that approved designs and manufacturing procedures are followed.
- Verify that completed products comply with market specifications, quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
- Assist in identifying routine production issues and recommend improvements using established engineering methods.
- Coordinate design revisions when manufacturing feedback, testing results, or customer comments require changes.
- Work with fabrication personnel to improve product assembly, material utilization, process flow, and production consistency.
- Support quality teams during inspections, dimensional checks, design reviews, and product conformity assessments.
- Maintain clear records of design changes, engineering calculations, technical decisions, and production feedback.
- Communicate progress, design concerns, material issues, and production risks to senior engineers and project stakeholders.
- Follow McDermott engineering, HSE, quality, document control, and production procedures during all assigned activities.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Product Engineer, Production Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or in a similar technical role.
- Foundational understanding of product development, fabrication, manufacturing processes, and engineering design principles.
- Experience creating sketches, engineering models, technical drawings, and product specifications.
- Working knowledge of computer-aided design and engineering modeling software.
- Ability to select materials and evaluate their suitability for manufacturing and product performance.
- Experience supporting assembly, testing, fabrication, or production inspection activities.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess routine engineering problems systematically.
- Awareness of industry developments, customer expectations, and product market trends.
- Ability to follow established procedures while seeking guidance for nonstandard technical issues.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with engineering and production teams.
- Relevant engineering training or Product Engineer certification is an advantage.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks, maintain accurate records, and meet agreed deadlines.
