Role Context

The Senior Project Engineer - Offshore Projects plays a key coordination role between engineering disciplines, project management, procurement, fabrication, marine, quality, HSES, completions, subcontractors, vendors, and customers. The position helps ensure that engineering deliverables, technical queries, worksharing interfaces, scope split matrices, schedules, progress reports, quality requirements, and project changes are controlled throughout execution. By identifying engineering constraints early and coordinating practical solutions, this role supports smoother offshore project delivery, stronger interface alignment, and better execution performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and review inputs from engineering disciplines, functional departments, subcontractors, vendors, and out-house contractors involved in project engineering execution.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables, reports, procedures, calculations, registers, and project documents are generated according to project requirements.
  • Support the Project Engineering Manager in managing the engineering portion of small projects or larger offshore projects.
  • Apply project engineering experience and discipline knowledge to solve complex technical, interface, schedule, and execution problems.
  • Plan personal work, manage assigned activities, forecast resource needs, and support project engineering priorities.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling engineering work in line with approved policies, procedures, systems, and contractual requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between the customer, Project Engineering Manager, engineering team, third-party agencies, subcontractors, and functional groups.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of the Engineering Project Execution Plan.
  • Assist in preparing the worksharing Interface Plan and Scope Split Matrix to ensure handover points, scope responsibilities, and office interfaces are clearly defined.
  • Review project plans with the project planner and support subcontract scope packages for engineering work that needs to be subcontracted.
  • Attend Engineering Project Readiness reviews when required.
  • Coordinate project plan inputs, scope updates, drawings, specifications, and engineering changes.
  • Log and evaluate engineering change impacts through the Desk Top Change Management System.
  • Review scope of work documents issued by functional departments and identify changes that impact engineering execution.
  • Update engineering scope of work documents as agreed and support change order preparation.
  • Coordinate information flow between engineering and functions such as fabrication, marine, procurement, quality, HSES, completions, and welding technology.
  • Maintain document registers for engineering documents received and issued, working closely with Document Control to ensure timely distribution.
  • Document substantive communications that lead to important decisions or assigned actions and forward copies to the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Facilitate technical query development, tracking, review, and closeout to clarify missing information, scope gaps, standards, specifications, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate and progress site queries related to subcontracted work.
  • Review project schedules and fabrication schedules against construction sequence, milestones, engineering scope, and deliverable requirements.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings with internal teams and customers, then prepare accurate minutes of meetings and action records.
  • Monitor worksharing team meetings and attend when coordination support is needed.
  • Ensure engineering and design work, including weight control information and required updates, is completed by discipline personnel in line with schedule and specifications.
  • Monitor customer approval of procedures, calculations, and engineering submissions in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Project Quality Manager to ensure engineering work follows quality plans and required inspection or certification records are available for final documentation.
  • Work with the Project Procurement Manager or Coordinator to ensure specifications, technical bid evaluations, vendor data expediting, and vendor approvals are delivered on schedule.
  • Coordinate frequently with senior production engineers and offshore operations engineers to understand work progress, identify engineering constraints, and support timely solutions.
  • Keep the Project Engineering Manager informed of technical, budgetary, manpower, progress, productivity, and interface-related concerns.
  • Monitor work in progress and compile weekly and monthly engineering activity status reports.
  • Gather inputs for actual, planned, and forecast progress reports, including productivity information.
  • Monitor KPI measurement results and alert Discipline Leads when timely corrective action is required.
  • Participate in HAZAN, HAZID, HAZOP, operability, safety, reliability, and technical workshops when required.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews and constructability reviews to support design coordination and execution readiness.
  • Travel when required to customer meetings, project meetings, engineering offices, fabrication yards, and offshore locations to resolve engineering interface issues.
  • Attend technical quality audit reviews when required.
  • Facilitate review of previous project lessons learned and ensure new project lessons learned are entered progressively into the MDR Lessons Learned system.
  • Assist the Project Engineering Manager in managing Lead Engineers and Lead Designers across assigned project activities.
Ideal Profile
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
  • 8 to 15 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant.
  • Strong experience in detailed design of offshore facilities.
  • Good working knowledge of discipline design techniques, engineering analysis methods, and general engineering workflows.
  • General understanding of statutory codes, technical guidelines, offshore engineering requirements, and project execution standards.
  • Experience coordinating engineering deliverables across multiple disciplines and functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of project engineering coordination, interface management, scope control, document control, technical queries, and project reporting.
  • Ability to work with engineering, procurement, fabrication, marine, quality, HSES, completions, welding technology, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
  • Capable of reviewing schedules, engineering progress, fabrication interfaces, change impacts, and deliverable priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare meeting minutes, progress reports, action trackers, and technical coordination updates.
  • Able to support customer-facing discussions, third-party agency coordination, and subcontractor interface management.
  • Skilled at identifying engineering constraints, scope gaps, schedule risks, and interface issues early.
  • Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of a recognized professional engineering society.
  • Organized, practical, and able to support multiple engineering activities within a fast-paced offshore project environment.
