About the Role

The Principal Technician – Machine Shop is a highly skilled machinist expert responsible for performing precision machining, grinding, drilling, tapping, reaming, extraction of broken screws, Heli-coil installation, milling, and other mechanical tasks on aircraft, engine parts, and various components. This role requires the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, maintain efficient workflow within the Machine Shop, and ensure compliance with all safety and quality standards. The Principal Technician will also be instrumental in tool calibration, process improvements, and continuous professional development.

Your Responsibilities

• Precision Machining and Mechanical Tasks (55%): Independently execute precision machining operations including grinding, drilling, tapping, reaming, extraction of broken screws, Heli-coil installation, and milling on aircraft and engine components, following technical manuals and established procedures to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Workflow Organization (15%): Organize and control the Machine Shop workflow to avoid production delays, prioritizing and scheduling tasks in collaboration with production planners.
• Compliance and Safety (10%): Enforce strict adherence to company quality, safety, health, and environmental regulations, actively participating in relevant programs and initiatives.
• Quality Inspection and Sign-off (10%): Inspect completed work for efficiency and compliance with company, industry, and customer specifications, and formally sign off on work orders.
• Coordination and Communication (5%): Collaborate closely with production planners to determine daily work priorities and maintain clear communication to ensure smooth operations.
• Tool Calibration and Process Improvement (5%): Ensure all precision tools and equipment are properly calibrated, identify opportunities for process enhancements, and pursue ongoing training and development.

Who we are looking for

We seek a dedicated professional with at least 8 years of progressive experience as a machinist in the aviation industry. The ideal candidate holds vocational or technical training relevant to machining, with a preference for an associate degree or equivalent certification, and possesses D2 level authorization in machine shop practices. You demonstrate expert-level proficiency in complex machining tasks and CNC programming across multiple platforms, along with strong ownership, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset. Your ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, planners, and peers, share technical knowledge, and ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance is essential.
