Role Context
The Pool Technician is responsible for keeping hotel swimming pools and associated systems safe, clean, balanced, and continuously operational. This includes maintaining pumps, filters, heaters, dosing equipment, circulation systems, plant rooms, pool decks, drains, and testing devices. Accurate monitoring and preventive maintenance are essential because pool water quality and equipment reliability directly affect guest safety, hotel compliance, operational continuity, and the overall leisure experience. The technician works closely with the Engineering team and other departments to resolve issues quickly and prevent avoidable downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain swimming pool filtration, circulation, heating, and chemical dosing systems.
- Monitor pool pumps, filters, heaters, valves, control systems, and related equipment for correct operation.
- Perform routine inspections to identify faults, leaks, abnormal readings, wear, or potential safety concerns.
- Test pool water systematically using approved testing equipment.
- Maintain correct chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and other required chemical levels.
- Record all water testing results accurately and retain documentation for operational and compliance review.
- Adjust chemical dosing systems when readings fall outside approved parameters.
- Handle, store, and use pool chemicals according to hotel procedures, manufacturer instructions, and safety requirements.
- Maintain chemical storage areas in a clean, organized, and secure condition.
- Keep swimming pools, decks, drains, plant rooms, and surrounding areas clean and hygienic.
- Maintain pool maintenance tools, testing devices, and equipment in safe working condition.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests relating to pools, water quality, mechanical equipment, and guest safety.
- Complete both minor and major pool maintenance assignments within the technician's scope.
- Prepare and return completed job sheets to the Engineering Office without unnecessary delay.
- Maintain accurate daily job records for inspection and reporting purposes.
- Report equipment defects, leaks, abnormal chemical readings, or system failures immediately to the Engineering Supervisor.
- Assist in diagnosing and correcting pool equipment problems.
- Identify the cause of recurring water quality or mechanical issues and support effective corrective action.
- Maintain required stock levels of pool chemicals, testing materials, spare parts, cleaning supplies, and tools.
- Report replenishment requirements before operational stock reaches critical levels.
- Follow the approved daily maintenance task list and complete assigned activities within required timelines.
- Conduct regular inspections beyond scheduled tasks to identify emerging maintenance or safety needs.
- Support installation, replacement, and upgrade of new pool equipment where assigned.
- Assist the Engineering team with pool improvement and refurbishment projects.
- Respond immediately to guest complaints or concerns involving pool temperature, water quality, cleanliness, or safety.
- Coordinate with relevant departments when an issue requires wider operational attention.
- Maintain compliance with hotel policies and Operational Standards Manual requirements.
- Follow applicable health, safety, environmental, and hygiene regulations.
- Support responsible energy and water use during pool operation and maintenance.
- Recommend improvements to operating methods, maintenance routines, water treatment, or equipment performance.
- Share relevant technical knowledge with colleagues and support cross-training where required.
- Participate in training programs and professional development activities.
- Maintain knowledge of hotel facilities and Engineering operations relevant to the role.
- Maintain professional grooming and conduct throughout each shift.
- Work cooperatively with Engineering colleagues and other hotel departments.
- Analyze technical problems systematically and develop practical action plans for timely resolution.
- Perform additional Engineering duties reasonably assigned by supervisors.
Ideal Profile
- 1-2 years of experience operating and maintaining swimming pool systems within a five-star hotel or comparable Hospitality environment.
- Practical knowledge of pool water treatment systems.
- Experience with filtration, circulation, pumps, heaters, and chemical dosing equipment.
- Strong understanding of chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and general pool water balance.
- Able to conduct accurate water testing and maintain complete operational records.
- Familiarity with safe chemical handling, storage, and dosing procedures.
- Understanding of health, hygiene, safety, and environmental requirements related to swimming pool operation.
- Able to troubleshoot mechanical and water-quality problems using a structured approach.
